History of origin

The Guldong was developed in Pakistan in the early to mid-20th century. Two breeds served as the basis:

  • The Gul Terrier traces its origins to the British Raj, when many bull terriers were brought to the subcontinent. They interbred with local dogs and developed into a distinct breed. In appearance and character, they resemble the old-style English Bull Terrier.
  • Bully kutta The Pakistani Mastiff is a large, powerful dog, also known as the Pakistani Mastiff. Historical records indicate that it has existed on the subcontinent for a very long time. It is used as a guard dog and fighting dog.

Crossbreeding resulted in several different types of dogs, including the Gul Dong. The goal of breeding was to produce a strong, powerful dog for bear baiting, guarding, and dog fighting. It should be as strong as the Bully Kutta and as agile as the Gul Terr. The breed is very diverse, with a bloodline of approximately 75% Gul Terr and 25% Bully Kutta.

There are no records or official documents confirming the breed's development. For this reason, the Guldong is the subject of much debate: whether it can be considered a breed or even a breed group.

Gul dong characteristics

Character and behavior

The Gul Dong is an intelligent, loyal, and athletic dog that is both aggressive and dominant. It quickly forms very strong bonds with its owner and family members and is willing to defend them to its last breath. Despite its devotion to family, the dog is too strong and aggressive to play with children. This includes older children. Under no circumstances should a Gul Dong be left alone with a child without owner supervision.

Gul Dong are used for property guarding, bear hunting, and as a powerful, aggressive fighting dog.The Gul Dong is very territorial. It is wary of strangers and will defend them without hesitation. It is relatively safe with those it knows and recognizes. Its hunting instinct often leads it to kill small and even large animals, including neighbors' cats and birds. Any dogs that enter its territory will be in trouble. Relationships with those it has grown up with vary, and conflicts often arise between dogs of the same sex.

Education and training

The Gul Dong is considered a difficult dog to train, with average trainability. It must be supervised throughout its life and never allowed off-leash while out for walks.

Without proper training and education, the Gul Dong can be uncontrollable and very dangerous.

Requires very good socialization from an early age. The dog should be trained by someone with a strong character, familiar with training similar breeds, and confident in handling its dominant personality.

Content Features

In the warm climate of the Indian subcontinent, Guldongs live outdoors year-round, either on a leash or in enclosures. However, they are poorly adapted to cold and frosty weather, so in temperate climates they can only live in an enclosure with a room where the temperature will not drop below freezing. Guldongs are not suitable for apartment or house keeping.

Gul Dong are serious, working dogs with a high exercise requirement. Daily exercise should be more intense than a regular walk. Jogging, trailing a bicycle, car, or weight pulling are all suitable activities. It's important that the dog always stays close to or behind its owner during walks.

Care

Like other short-haired dog breeds, the Shuul Dong requires little grooming. Occasional brushing and wiping with a damp cloth are sufficient. Bathing is rarely necessary. Also, attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the eyes, ears, and teeth. The claws are normally self-wearing.

  • allergy;
  • ear infections;
