Composition and features
This unique formula for this nutritional supplement was developed by the French company Purina. Its products are familiar to most pet owners, as they produce pet food. The product is specially formulated for cats (Fortiflora is also available for dogs), ensuring its high effectiveness.

Fortiflora is available as a powder packaged in plastic sachets. Each sachet contains 1 gram of the product—the daily dose—making it very convenient to use. There's no need to measure the powder with spoons or other tools. A cardboard box holds 30 sachets, but most pharmacies sell them individually, so you can purchase the quantity you need.
The product is based on Enterococcus faecium SF 68 lactic acid bacteria. The live bacteria are encapsulated in special microcapsules. This ensures they only become active upon entering the gastrointestinal tract. The formula also includes:
- processed meat products;
- sodium chloride;
- manganese proteinate;
- iron sulfate;
- vitamin C and E;
- taurine and other components.
In addition to live bacteria that help restore intestinal microflora, the product contains ash, fiber, vitamins, iodine, selenium, iron, and other minerals. Proteins account for 50% of the nutritional value, with fats accounting for about 15%.
How it works
The digestive system plays a vital role in the body, ensuring the delivery of nutrients and beneficial substances. When the gastrointestinal tract is disrupted, food absorption is impaired, immunity is weakened, and a deficiency of minerals, proteins, and other nutrients can negatively impact the functioning of other organs and systems. Fortiflora helps restore the intestinal microflora, thereby improving its function. Live bacteria can displace harmful microorganisms.

The supplement has the following effect on the animal’s body:
- restores intestinal microflora after taking antibiotics or exposure to other factors;
- has an antibacterial effect, helps to cope with infections;
- normalizes the functioning of the entire digestive system;
- improves the absorption of nutrients from food;
- increases the body's resistance to stress and other negative factors;
- helps get rid of stomach upset and other digestive problems.
Please note! Contains only natural ingredients and contains no toxic or harmful substances, making Fortiflora suitable for cats with virtually no restrictions.
Price
A significant drawback of using Fortiflora for cats is its relatively high price. A cardboard box containing 30 sachets costs between 1,200 and 1,400 rubles. By comparison, similar domestic probiotics cost only a few hundred rubles.
So, where can I buy this product? You can purchase this supplement at any pet store or veterinary pharmacy, including those operating online. The easiest way to order the product is through an online store.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Fortiflor is recommended for cats with gastrointestinal disorders:
- for stomach upset;
- at gastroenteritis;
- with dysbacteriosis;
- in other pathologies.
Often, this feed supplement is combined with medications for chronic and acute digestive system diseases to achieve maximum effectiveness. It is recommended for use in the treatment of antibiotics or after completion of the course, as well as in case of microflora imbalance caused by worms or other factors.

Changing the diet or weaning kittens from their mother can cause serious intestinal problems, which usually manifest themselves as poor quality stool, irregularity or diarrheaIn this case, Fortiflora can also help normalize the digestive system. It can also be used preventatively when changing food or in stressful situations:
- during transportation;
- when guests arrive;
- when the owner leaves;
- when visiting a veterinary clinic;
- when participating in competitions, etc.
This food supplement can be used prophylactically for malnourished or seriously ill animals. A healthy gastrointestinal tract is key to a pet's rapid recovery, as the body receives maximum nutrients from food, which are involved in various physiological processes. Furthermore, immunity and the body's ability to resist harmful microorganisms are significantly enhanced.
How to apply
This food supplement is easy to use. Sprinkle the contents of one packet onto the food. It can be used with dry or wet food, as well as natural foods. The only requirement is that the food should not be heated, as this will kill the live bacteria, rendering Forti Flora ineffective.
Please note: Add the powder to your pet's food immediately before feeding.
The medication should be administered once daily. The daily dose is one sachet, regardless of the animal's weight or age. Some experts recommend dividing the contents of one sachet into 2-3 doses when using the medication on kittens, but this is not necessary.

The manufacturer does not recommend a specific time of administration, so the powder can be used either during the morning or evening feeding. The duration of use is determined on a case-by-case basis. For gastrointestinal disorders, treatment continues until symptoms resolve. If Fortiflora is used to prevent digestive problems during stressful situations, it should be administered starting several days before the expected event and continued for several days afterward.
Because it contains meat, the supplement has a distinctive odor. The meaty aroma stimulates the animal's appetite. Even weakened animals eat it without difficulty.
Contraindications and side effects
Since this food supplement contains only natural ingredients, it can be given to both very young kittens and older pets. It can also be used by pregnant and lactating females. The instructions state that the only contraindication is an allergy to certain ingredients, or an intolerance to them.

The powder does not cause any side effects, but if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you may experience skin rashes, itching, or other problems, or worsen diarrhea. However, this is extremely rare.

Owner reviews
Ksenia, owner of a 12-year-old cat:
"My cat started vomiting in the mornings for no apparent reason. A veterinarian I know recommended Fortiflora. After just a couple of days, the vomiting stopped. His appetite improved, his stools became regular and of normal consistency, and he became more active and playful. One of the advantages is the ease of use. I simply sprinkled the powder on his food, and Tom ate it all."
Ekaterina, owner of a Persian cat:
"When our beauty became very ill, a course of antibiotics was prescribed for treatment. To neutralize their negative impact on the intestines, FortiFlora. I read a lot of positive reviews about this probiotic online, but I wasn't impressed. Firstly, my cat didn't like the taste at all. She had no appetite and sometimes refused to eat at all. Secondly, even a month of use didn't produce any results. My cat continued to have bowel problems. Ultimately, we went to a different vet and started using a completely different, and most importantly, effective, product.
Veterinarian Reviews
Alexander, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:
"Fortiflora's popularity is the result of good marketing, not its effectiveness. Yes, it contains live bacteria, but while it helps some people, it doesn't help others. The product's hype has nothing to do with its effectiveness. However, a probiotic definitely won't harm your pet."
Larisa, a veterinarian with 13 years of experience:
«FortiFlora is a good probiotic that helps restore intestinal microflora. It's as effective as domestic products with similar effects, but it's much more expensive. For this reason, I don't use it in my practice, as I don't see the point in paying more. I've heard from colleagues that the powder occasionally causes diarrhea and allergic reactions.

Interesting article, thanks to the author. Our cat is 3.5 years old; we found him when he was about 4 months old. It turned out he has pancreatic issues and vomiting can last for 24 hours, similar to rotavirus in humans. The doctor, in addition to medication, recommended Fortiflora during treatment and as a preventative measure. Whenever I notice his appetite is declining and his stomach is rumbling, I give him Fortiflora for a few days. He even licks the powder off during the first few days. I'm seeing a positive effect. I don't know of any similar products.

The cat had diarrhea for a week.
They prescribed Fort Flora for 5 days.
After three days of treatment, he had a bowel movement and that was it. He was lethargic and hadn't pooped for two days. At the vet, they gave him Vaseline, massaged his stomach, and he pooped in the evening. They also said he shouldn't have been given the prescribed medication for the five days. They said it had fixed everything.
The cat hasn't gone to the toilet for two days again.

My cat has chronic renal failure and gastritis and hasn't eaten. After a course of IVs and antibiotics, she's in really bad shape. The doctor recommended FortiFlora. It's been a huge help; I give it to her in the mornings with pâté. Her appetite is good throughout the day, and she has bowel movements every day.

The 3-month-old kitten had a good appetite and was active, but he farted terribly.
The vet prescribed Fortiflora. He doesn't fart, but since the hospitalization, he's developed a voracious appetite. He begs for food and licks his now-empty bowl several times.
This is bad?

Hello! What exactly are you feeding him? Perhaps the portions you're giving him aren't enough? Perhaps the food isn't nutritious enough to meet his energy needs ("empty"). Have you had parasite treatments lately? Maybe it's time for a deworming (he's old enough). The kitten is growing, and a good appetite is normal. Let him eat, but keep an eye on his bowel movements. Increased gas production is sometimes a symptom of a bacterial infection (especially if the stool becomes runny, has a strong odor, and contains gas or foam).
