Flappy is a new experimental cat breed.
Flappy – a new experimental breed that has divided the cat world into two opposing camps. One camp consists of fans of these incredibly cute cats, while the other consists of skeptics who claim the source material simply cannot produce a healthy, fully developed breed. Only time will tell who is right.

History of origin
American breeders were the first to attempt to breed flappigs. The program involved Scottish Folds and Extreme Persians. The breed, called the Foldex, proved unstable, difficult to breed, and quickly died out.
Felinologists made their next attempt at this at the beginning of the new century. Breeding work on this new artificially developed breed is being carried out under the supervision of the Pedigree Cat Association. The PCA is a felinological system that unites several cat clubs categorized by breed. Founded in 1993, this association also specializes in the selection of new breeds.
The basis of breeding work for flappigs is a strict genetic combination of animals. The source material for flappigs was British Shorthair cat, Scottish Fold, Persians Standards and extremes. Experiments to create a fold-eared, snub-nosed cat are being conducted in parallel in America and Europe. More and more Russian catteries are showing interest in the new breed.
Not all feline associations are ready to welcome flappies with open arms. At this stage of development, the breed is recognized only in the PCA system, which controls breeding. But this does not stop unusual cats from rapidly gaining popularity.

Appearance
The Flappy is a round, furry cat with large, expressive eyes and small, drooping ears. These cats have a compact body and strong skeleton. They are medium-sized and proportionately built. Otherwise, the new breed can be described as "round": it has a round head and muzzle, round, expressive, wide-open eyes, and a small nose. In profile, the stop from the forehead to the nose is clearly defined. The muzzle is completed by voluminous cheeks and whisker pads. The ears are small and can be erect or drooping.
The Flappy's coat is very soft, silky, and dense, with a well-developed undercoat. The hair and undercoat lie loosely against the body, creating a plush effect.
In addition to the short-haired varieties, there is also a long-haired flappig, which has already received its name - flappig-heri.
All colors recognized for the Exotic and Persian breeds are permitted. For convenience, Flappies are divided into three categories: yellow-eyed, green-eyed, and blue-eyed. Each eye color has a corresponding list of acceptable colors: single, compound, and colorpoint. chinchilla.

Character
The Flappy is a sweet, friendly creature that gets along well with dogs, ferrets, chinchillas, and decorative birds. They are completely non-aggressive and completely incapable of fighting, so even a common yard cat could harm the defenseless creature.
In general, flappies are easy-going, homebodies, balanced and calm, moderately playful, obedient and affectionate.
They are wary of strangers, but become more friendly upon closer acquaintance. Within a family, the Flappyg prefers one owner over others, usually of the opposite sex. While sociable, their character lacks the independence and self-sufficiency characteristic of many other breeds. They require care and attention from their owner and suffer greatly from loneliness if left alone for long periods.
Although very rare, it does happen that the character traits of their parent breeds can manifest themselves in a way that's not quite as desirable. Some Flappies dislike excessive attention, and others can even become aggressive if their rights are infringed.

This breed is designed exclusively for apartment living. They are not suited to living in an environment where they must fight for territory and assert their rights. And if this furry creature climbs high up a tree or falls into a hole, they will likely become confused and meekly await help. For these same reasons, the flappy doesn't require walks. A few toys, or at best a play structure, and, of course, human attention are sufficient. Incidentally, flappies are quite calm, and as adults they can even be lazy. Getting this cat to play will take some effort. Not every toy will pique their interest.
If the animal is destined for a show career, it's essential to properly socialize the kitten. Otherwise, any trip outside the house will be extremely stressful, not to mention noise and crowds of people.

Care
Plush fur sheds heavily and almost year-round. Daily brushing is recommended, using a special brush for short-haired or semi-long-haired breeds. Bathe only as needed, and it's important to choose the right grooming products and detergent. These cats are also tireless clean freaks. They can spend hours grooming themselves, tidying their fur, and trimming their manicures. Therefore, they absolutely need to be given a hair-dissolving paste regularly; otherwise, the risk of hairballs in the stomach and intestines increases.
Other important hygiene procedures include regular checkups, ear cleaning, and teeth cleaning. Eyes should be cleaned as needed, but this requires special attention, especially in young cats. Wide-open and round, they are very susceptible to infections and prone to excessive tearing.
What to feed a flappy cat
Owners note that flappies are very picky eaters. They can sit for hours over their bowl, reluctantly choosing one piece at a time. Even so, they stare at the owner's table with hungry eyes, as if they haven't been fed in a week. But don't give in to their desires. In fact, these cats are sedentary and therefore require light, nutritious foods in the recommended amounts. The easiest way to provide animals with a balanced diet is to select high-quality commercial feed. But if you want to and don’t have any allergies, a natural diet is quite suitable.
Health and life expectancy
This breed doesn't boast a strong immune system, so kittens shouldn't be brought into a new home without the necessary vaccinations. Flappies should be protected from cold and drafts, especially during their active growth period. Due to their facial structure, they are more sensitive and more susceptible to upper respiratory infections. There is currently no information on genetic diseases or hereditary predispositions.

Many skeptics constantly point out on various forums that the original breeds, especially Persians and Scottish Folds, have very complex genetics associated with a number of pathologies. Indeed, it's quite possible that these could manifest themselves in the new breed. To prevent this, nurseries follow a custom-designed breeding program. Unfortunately, no one can say that a kitten without visible illnesses will remain strong and healthy in the future. It's still too early to judge how long pets live on average.
Choosing a Flappyg kitten and its price
Working with rare breeds is always full of surprises, both pleasant and unpleasant. Don't trust a breeder who claims all their endeavors are successful and every single kitten meets the standard. A kitten must have papers. A certificate proves its relationship to a particular breed, and a mutual contract is also drawn up. If the animal is not sold for breeding, the new owner does not receive the certificate. It is subsequently exchanged for a full pedigree.
A breeder may not sell kittens until the litter has been certified and vaccinated according to age. The breeder is responsible for the health of the kittens; the organization is only responsible for compliance with the standard.
Flappy breeders are members of the PCA system, which oversees all stages of breeding, from mating to kitten certification. Those wishing to purchase a kitten of this rare breed should submit a request on the APKLC cat club page.
The price of Flappyg kittens is proportional to their quality. The average price for a good kitten from a cattery is 30,000 rubles. Given the enormous interest in this new breed, it's important to be extremely careful when purchasing a kitten from a private seller or from online ads. The number of scammers looking to profit from naive cat owners is increasing every day.
