Flatazor dog food

Flatazor dog food is a French-made product that's virtually unknown to our customers. Today, we'll detail the brand's product line, analyze its ingredients, gather reviews from owners and veterinarians, and provide a price list.

Flatazor dog food is produced in France by Sopral SA, whose history dates back to 1866 with a flour mill. In 2014, the Flatazor Pro-Nutrition® brand celebrated its 50th anniversary. This milestone is more than just a number; it speaks to the company's extensive experience and growth, as it prides itself on its unique, innovative developments and nutritional formulas for pets.

All Flatazor dog food is manufactured exclusively in Pléchatel, Brittany, in a state-of-the-art facility. This company's exclusive and patented development is an additive called "organolysates," a natural complex of amino acids, omega acids, and biopeptides, which is included in the formula of every product.

Range of rations

The scientific research and nutritional studies carried out by Sopral's pet nutrition specialists have resulted in four lines of Flatazor dog food, each of which has received repeated reviews confirming its high quality. All diets are divided into the Pure Life, Protect, Prestige, and Elite series, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits.

Pure Life

Pure Life is Flatazor's newest dog food category, which, according to the manufacturer, contains 85% animal protein and is grain- and gluten-free. It is available in five varieties, each with a different composition based on the pet's age group and size, and also includes a Light/Sterilized diet for spayed animals or those prone to weight gain.

Pure Life Formula is a grain-free Flatazor dog food that is also hypoallergenic and suitable for pets with food intolerances.
Protect is a line of diets aimed at improving the health of pets with specific illnesses or problems. The Protect series consists of five products designed to address the nutritional challenges of dogs with special needs:

  • Digest - for problematic digestion;
  • Dermato – for pets with skin diseases;
  • Osteo – for diseases of the joints and musculoskeletal system;
  • Obesite – for excess weight loss;
  • Senior+ — for older dogs;

Elite

Elite – products in this category are intended exclusively for kennels and are packaged in 20 kg bags only (except for Elite Puppy mini). This line also includes Suckling Complete Food, a dry milk formula for puppies from the first day of life, also suitable for supplementary feeding if the mother dog is not producing enough milk. The entire Elite series includes 11 food options, all of which are based exclusively on Flatazor dry dog food. Breeder reviews indicate that many highly rate it and recommend it to others.

Prestige

Prestige is Flatazor's most extensive line of dog food, comprising 12 different formulas. It can be considered the basic or classic category, with formulas divided according to age (puppy, adult, senior), pet size (mini, maxi), and calorie needs (active, light). There are also three Flatazor Sensitive dog food options, which are primarily reviewed by owners of pets with sensitive digestion. Gourmets can choose from lamb with rice, grain-free salmon, and poultry (chicken, duck, and turkey).

In our opinion, Flatazor's product range is not only wide but, more importantly, functional and convenient. This is one of the brand's strengths.

Evaluation of feed composition

The manufacturer claims that Flatazor dry dog food is a super-premium nutrition rich in meat, naturally derived ingredients, and contains no soy or GMO ingredients. Furthermore, each Flatazor formula includes a complex of phytonutrients, fructooligosaccharides, flaxseed, apples, and yucca, which, both individually and as a whole, contribute significantly to maintaining dogs' health.

Let's take a closer look at the ingredients in Flatazor Prestige Adult dog food for all breeds. The guaranteed nutrient analysis is as follows:

Squirrels 24% within normal limits
Fat 13% normal content
Fiber 3% minimum acceptable indicator
Ash 6% below average
Humidity not specified
Carbohydrates not specified
Energy value 3930 kcal/kg

All these parameters are quite acceptable for feeding a pet living in an apartment; this diet will satisfy the energy requirements of a dog that goes for walks two to three times a day and is not subjected to regular physical activity (intensive training, hunting, or guarding outdoors in the cold season).

The detailed composition of Flatazor food for adult dogs is as follows:

  • Dehydrated poultry meat;
  • Corn;
  • Wheat;
  • Apple fiber;
  • Animal fat;
  • Duck fat;
  • Hydrolysates of animal proteins.

There's no detailed list of the percentages of each ingredient on either the manufacturer's official website or the Russian distributor's website. This fact, of course, confuses us and leaves us with many doubts about the balance of this recipe. Another point: on the official website, the first ingredient is listed as "dehydrated meat," while in the Russian version, the word "birds" appears. We're unable to explain this.

Squirrels

The first ingredient is dehydrated poultry, an easily digestible meat component and a good source of animal protein. However, it's difficult to judge the quality of the ingredient when it's simply listed as "poultry" and there's no way to identify the ingredient. The food also contains another meat component—animal protein hydrolysate, or protein concentrate—but it's listed seventh, meaning its mass fraction in the food is insignificant.

Carbohydrates

After the first meat ingredient, two grains are listed: corn and wheat. We don't consider either ingredient to be a worthy ingredient; corn is often used as a cheap filler, while wheat, unfortunately, is a common cause of food allergies in dogs. These grains are rich in carbohydrates with a high glycemic index and also contain plant protein, which is practically indigestible by animals.

Fat

The fifth and sixth ingredients are designed to provide fats to your pet. In this case, the formula includes duck fat, a high-quality ingredient rich in linoleic acid. Animal fat is also added; we would prefer chicken or fish oil, which are higher-quality ingredients. Furthermore, the origin of the fat is not clearly stated, so such an unspecified ingredient could very well be of low quality.

Additional components

Flatazor dry dog food contains a few other ingredients, but their impact on the overall product is not significant due to the small amounts. However, a few are worth mentioning:

  • Beet pulp is a controversial ingredient that, on the one hand, acts as fiber, but, according to opponents of this additive, serves simply as a cheap filler.
  • Flaxseed is rich in omega acids, has anti-inflammatory properties, and has the ability to lower blood sugar levels.
  • Sea salt – added to enhance the palatability of the food and encourage the animal to drink more. This is a controversial ingredient, and in our opinion, not at all desirable.

The formula also includes fructooligosaccharides and an exclusive additive—organolysates. Their purpose is to stimulate the immune system, normalize blood pressure, and support digestive tract function. The presence of such complexes is worthy of a super-premium product.

Advantages and disadvantages

Let's summarize all the pros and cons of Flatazor dog food:

Pros

  • A varied and extensive range;
  • Prebiotics FOS and enzymes for microflora;
  • Protein source – meat ingredient;

Cons

  • The presence of protein and fat of questionable quality, labeled as “poultry” and “animal”;
  • Availability of wheat, corn;
  • The specific amount of each component in the composition is not indicated, we cannot be sure that this product actually contains the required amount of meat;

Although Flatazor dog food receives mostly positive reviews and is marketed as a super-premium diet, we can't be sure. The product's grain content, relative to its meat content, is significantly higher. This, coupled with the presence of questionable or substandard ingredients, prevents us from giving this food a high rating.

Reviews of food

Reviews of Flatazor dog food from pet owners and users also play a significant role when choosing a pet's diet. Therefore, we've included reviews below from people who have already fed Flatazor products and formed their own opinions:

Karina, toy terrier:

"My dog has sensitive digestion, so I spent a long time choosing her food, carefully and meticulously studying the ingredients. We've been feeding her Sensible for six months now, alternating between lamb and salmon. I transitioned gradually to avoid upsetting her. Everything went well, the food suits her, and I won't experiment again, nor do I want to change her diet."

Maxim, a Stafford crossbreed:

"A dog trainer friend recommended this food to me. I read a lot of good reviews on forums and bought 3 kg of Adult Maxi to try. On the very first day, he developed diarrhea, so I decided I'd made a sudden switch and went back to the old formula, gradually adding Flatazor over the next 10 days. Now everything is fine, the staffie eats it happily, but the large amount of waste is a bit of a concern."

Expert assessment

After analyzing veterinarian reviews of Flatazor dog food, it can be concluded that not all lines of this brand fully meet the super-premium category. Furthermore, products from the Prestige series are not recommended for pets with food intolerances due to the presence of wheat. Veterinarians also agree that insufficient fiber can negatively impact pets' digestion, a fact worth considering when choosing food for your dog.
