Fitex is a sedative used to prevent and treat stress in cats. It is based on herbal ingredients, but has pronounced sedative properties. It can be used on cats of all breeds and ages.

General description

Fitex is a water-glycerin solution for oral administration. It appears as a thick, viscous, reddish-brown substance with a characteristic, faint herbal odor. The solution is packaged in glass or plastic bottles, each equipped with a dropper/pipette, making it easy to measure the required amount. There's no need to purchase a separate dropper. Bottle sizes vary, but 7 or 10 ml bottles are recommended for cats.

The composition includes extracts of the following herbs:

  • valerian;
  • motherwort;
  • Baikal skullcap;
  • common hops.

100 grams of the prepared solution contains 2.5 grams of each extract. It also contains glycerin and water. The product is alcohol-free, so it doesn't cause an unpleasant burning sensation or aversion in animals. The medication contains no chemical additives, preservatives, or fragrances.

How it works

One of the main advantages of Fitex is its gentle effect on the central and autonomic nervous systems. This helps regulate animal behavior when stressed by various factors. Each medicinal extract has its own unique effect on the pet's body:

  • Valerian has a pronounced calming effect. It also helps relieve aggression and depression and improves sleep.
  • Motherwort has a strong sedative effect and reduces nervous system excitability. It has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, improves the functioning of the digestive tract, and other systems. It can lower blood pressure.
  • In addition to its sedative effect, hops eliminate symptoms of anxiety and aggression, and can also suppress sexual activity.
  • Baikal skullcap helps the body adapt to stressful situations, has an anticonvulsant effect, and lowers blood pressure. It has a unique property: it suppresses fear in animals.

The complex of medicinal herbal extracts has the following effect:

  • normalizes the functioning of the nervous system;
  • eliminates symptoms of aggression, depression, anxiety;
  • lowers blood pressure;
  • normalizes animal behavior;
  • Suppresses sexual desire in cats.

In addition, the drug has a mild antispasmodic effect. It does not cause drowsiness or lethargy in animals, as is the case with tranquilizers and chemically synthesized agents.

How much does it cost and where to buy it?

Another advantage of Fitex for cats is its low price. The price depends on the bottle size:

  • 7 ml – 90-115 rub.;
  • 10 ml – 170-200 rubles.

The medication can be easily purchased at any veterinary pharmacy. It is often available in pet stores. A doctor's prescription is not required. You can also order the sedative online from specialized resources that sell medications and pet supplies.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Fitex for cats is used for one purpose: to correct unwanted behavior. The medication is recommended for use in the following cases:

  • with increased hyperactivity;
  • with constant or night meowing;
  • if the animal is afraid;
  • if the pet marks its territory.

The drug can be used to restore behavior in male cats exhibiting hypersexuality or in female cats in heat. These symptoms typically manifest as restlessness, loud meowing, and other symptoms that cause significant inconvenience to the owner, their family, and sometimes even neighbors.

Nervous cat

Not only humans but also animals can experience stress. In pets, stress can cause aggression, apathy, or other behavioral problems, as well as digestive problems (vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, etc.). Fitex helps prevent or eliminate the unpleasant effects of stress, so it is recommended for use in the following situations:

  • during visits to the doctor;
  • when participating in exhibitions, competitions and various competitions;
  • when visiting zoo hotels;
  • when going to the salon;
  • when guests visit;
  • when the owner leaves;
  • when traveling or flying;
  • when moving to a new place of residence, etc.

Please note! Sedatives, including Fitex, may reduce the effectiveness of other medications. If you are giving your pet any medications, be sure to consult your veterinarian.

How to apply

According to the Fitex instructions, a single dose for cats is 3-5 drops. The animal's size and condition (how severe the effects of stress or sexual activity are) should be taken into account. The medication should be administered three times daily. Treatment is usually long-term—15-30 days.

The cat is sleeping

Apply the medication to the back of the tongue or cheek area and prevent the animal from spitting it out. If this procedure bothers the pet, Fitex can be applied to a small piece of food and fed to the animal. Administer the medication an hour before feeding. This will ensure its most effective action.

Please note! If your pet will be subject to stress (such as a planned trip to the vet, guests, transportation, etc.), begin administering the medication 5-7 days in advance. Preventing stress is much easier than dealing with its consequences later.

Contraindications and side effects

Fitex has no contraindications. The exception is cases where the animal has an individual intolerance to plant substances, which is quite rare. Most animals, regardless of breed and age, tolerate the sedative well.

Please note! This medication should not be used if you have low blood pressure.

A major advantage of this medication is that it does not cause side effects. In rare cases, an allergic reaction may occur due to individual intolerance. Discontinuing treatment with the medication and administering an antiallergic medication helps the animal's body cope with the effects of the allergy.

Pros and cons

Fitex has many advantages:

  • easy to use;
  • does not have toxic or other negative effects on the animal’s body, even in case of overdose;
  • can be used for cats of different breeds and ages;
  • contains only natural ingredients;
  • no hypnotic effect;
  • has a gentle effect on the nervous system;
  • effectively corrects pet's behavior;
  • does not contain hormones;
  • available.

The main disadvantages are:

  • the need for long-term treatment (at least 2 weeks);
  • weaker effect compared to synthetic chemical sedative drugs.

Although the herbal sedative is considered safe, it is advisable to consult a doctor before using it.

Calm cat

Owner reviews

Albina, owner of a 5-year-old cat:

"Our cat is as big as a calf, but terribly timid. As soon as guests come into the house, he hides under the covers on the bed and other hidden places. When he got really sick and needed daily trips to the clinic for injections, he started throwing real tantrums. The vet recommended Fitex. He really did calm down. We also gave him drops during the renovations, when workers were constantly in the house. He didn't let strangers pet him, but he walked around the house with an air of importance and didn't hide."

Kristina, owner of a British cat:

"Until we could sterilize her, her heat cycle was a real torment. At first, on the advice of a pharmacist, we tried Kot Bayun, but it didn't help. Fitex proved much more effective. After two days, the cat stopped meowing pitifully all day, calling for suitors. The main advantage is the natural ingredients. There's no harm to her health."

Marina, owner of a mixed-breed cat:

"Even though our cat isn't a breed, she's very determined. We can't leave her alone at home. She immediately starts getting into mischief, so we always have to take her with us. She used to be restless on the road until we started giving her Fitex. Now she handles travel well, although she sometimes gets up to mischief afterwards. Overall, it's a good product."

Veterinarian Reviews

Olga Andreevna, veterinarian at a St. Petersburg clinic:

"Fitex is a good sedative for animals. It's worth noting that it contains valerian, which some cats don't tolerate. Personally, I prescribe a homeopathic remedy for my clients to treat and prevent stress." Fospasim, but I can’t say anything bad about this drug.”

Galina, a veterinarian with 12 years of experience:

"A good herbal sedative. It's not effective for all animals. I can tell from my own observations. Everyone reacts differently, but this medication definitely won't harm your pet. The worst that could happen is your cat will remain restless or continue to meow."
