Fiprist for dogs

Fiprist is an antiparasitic medication used to kill and prevent ectoparasites in dogs. It is intended for external use. It is available in several forms, so owners can choose the one that is most convenient for them. Before using Fiprist on dogs, please read the instructions.

Composition and release form

Fiprist is available as drops and a spray, with the drops available in two different forms. The composition varies depending on the form.

Fiprist Combo drug

Spray

The active ingredient is fipronil, which accounts for 0.25% of the medication. The excipients are:

  • isopropanol;
  • copovidone;
  • purified water.

The clear, colorless liquid is packaged in polyethylene bottles of 100, 250, and 500 ml. They are equipped with spray heads, significantly simplifying antiparasitic treatment.

Fyprist Spray

Drops for external use

There are two types of Fiprist drops for dogs:

  • Spot On;
  • Combo.

The main difference is in the composition. The active ingredient in both cases is fipronil, but in the combo drops, the additional active ingredient is s-methoprene. The excipients include povidone, polysorbate, ethyl alcohol, and other components.

Fiprist Spot On Drops

Drops, regardless of composition, are packaged in disposable polyethylene pipettes. Depending on the intended use (animal weight), pipette volumes are available in 0.67, 1.34, 2.68, and 4.02 ml. It's important to pay attention to this when purchasing the medication.

Pharmacological properties

The product has a detrimental effect on fleas, ticks and other ectoparasitesFipronil disables the nervous system by blocking insect receptors, resulting in paralysis and death. It affects parasites at all stages of development, from eggs to adults.

Methoprene is an analogue of a growth hormone. It disrupts chitin production, resulting in various developmental abnormalities in the parasites. Consequently, the larvae fail to mature into adulthood and die at this stage.

Fleas on a dog

The active ingredients barely penetrate the bloodstream, so the medication has no adverse effects on internal organs. The medication's effects are noticeable after 24 hours, when it is evenly distributed over the entire skin. It accumulates in the epidermis, fur, and sebaceous glands and maintains its harmful effects over a long period, so treatments should be repeated every 3-4 weeks. When used according to the instructions, Fypryst for dogs does not cause irritation or other adverse effects.

Indications for use

Both Fiprist spray and drops are used to destroy:

  • fleas;
  • lice;
  • ixodid ticks;
  • lice;
  • cheilitell;
  • other insects.

Can be used as part of a comprehensive treatment for allergic dermatitis. The drops are also used to treat ear mites.

The product in any form can be used not only to combat parasites, but also to prevent their occurrence.

The cost of Fiprista Combo drops for dogs depends on the dosage of the active ingredient:

  • 2-10 kg – 480 rub.;
  • 10-20 kg – 520 rub.;
  • 20-40 kg – 570 rub.;

Instructions for use

The use of the drug depends on the form of its release.

Spray

It's best to carry out parasite treatment outdoors. If this isn't possible, the room should be well-ventilated. Before spraying, it's best to remove any ornamental birds from the room and cover the aquarium.

The dog should be muzzled, collared, or occluded to prevent licking. Once the product has dried (after 20-30 minutes), the aids can be removed. The dosage is calculated at 3-6 ml per 1 kg of animal. When calculating the dosage, consider the coat length.

A dog with long hair

To avoid exceeding the recommended dosage, consider the bottle's volume. A single press may contain different amounts of medication depending on the bottle's volume:

  • 100 ml bottle – 0.5 ml;
  • 250 ml bottle – 1.5 ml;
  • 500 ml bottle – 3 ml.

When treating long-haired pets, lift the fur slightly. Apply the spray evenly over the entire coat. When spraying from the front, cover the eyes with your hand to prevent irritation.

Until the medicine has completely dried, avoid keeping the animal near fire sources and heating elements.

Drops

According to the instructions, Fiprist Spot-On and Combo drops are used the same way for dogs. Apply the drops to the withers. When treating larger pets, apply the drops in several places, but make sure the animal cannot lick them.

The dosage is calculated based on weight:

  • from 2 to 10 kg – 0.67 ml;
  • from 10 to 20 – 1.34 ml;
  • from 20 to 40 – 2.68 ml;
  • more than 40 kg – 4.02 ml.

When purchasing the product, select the appropriate pipette size. For tick protection, treatment should be carried out every 21 days, and for flea protection, every 1.5 months.

Treatment of otodectosis

To treat ear mites, place a few drops in each ear. Fold the ear flap over and gently massage to distribute the solution evenly throughout the entire ear. Place the remaining drops on the withers.

General rules of application

Regardless of the dosage form, when using Fiprist, you should follow simple rules and recommendations:

  1. If you're treating multiple animals, prevent them from licking the medication. Use collars or mouth tape to prevent licking. These can be removed after the medication has dried.
  2. Treat or change bedding and household items when eliminating parasites to prevent re-infestation.
  3. Do not bathe your dog for 2 days before treatment and 48 hours afterward. Shampoos can reduce the effectiveness of the product, so their use should be minimized.
  4. The product should be applied to dry and undamaged skin.
  5. Perform preventative treatment regularly. Failure to follow the recommended regimen may reduce the medication's effectiveness.

Owner reviews

Marina, owner of a 2-year-old dog:

"Our dog isn't a purebred, but we love her very much. When our shaggy wonder started itching at the beginning of summer, we immediately went to the pharmacy. On the pharmacist's advice, we bought Fiprist drops. It's a convenient treatment, but it didn't help. After a while, the dog continued itching, and we had to repeat the treatment with a different product. However, that's a whole other story."

Victoria, the owner of the pinscher:

"We always give our dog preventative flea and tick treatment. When we moved into the house we bought, we discovered fleas were living in the wooden floors. They started bothering our Jack, so we went to the pharmacy for an effective treatment. We bought Fiprist Combo. The pharmacist told us it contains two active ingredients and works great, targeting not only fleas and ticks but also their larvae. Within a week, the house was flea-free, and our dog felt great."

Veterinarian Reviews

Lyudmila, a veterinarian with 5 years of experience:

"Fiprist Combo is an effective remedy against ectoparasites. I recommend it for both treatment and prevention. I've seen a lot of negative reviews about this product. These are due to the large number of counterfeit products. Because of its high price, it's often counterfeited, which is why it doesn't work."

Alexey, veterinarian:

"Fiprist spot-on drops are a generic FrontlineThe drug has the same composition and effect. Whether it's worth saving on your pet is entirely up to you. I always prescribe medications that have undergone various tests and checks. From what my colleagues have told me, animals tolerate Fiprist well. If you don't exceed the dosage, side effects are unlikely, but the effectiveness can sometimes leave much to be desired."

  • Good afternoon! My Yorkie is 10 years old, and for the last six years we've been using Fiprist exclusively. Before that, he had a terrible allergy to the same medication. Now we have a French Bulldog, and he's also using Fiprist. So far, so good, no allergies. We've removed ticks, but not those that were embedded, just crawling ones. I'm happy with the medication, and while we have to put up with the unpleasant odor, we have peace of mind for our dogs!
