Feligen is a vaccine for cats.
Feligen is a comprehensive vaccine for cats from the French company Virbac SA. It is designed to build the body's immune defense against panleukopenia, viral rhinotracheitis (herpesvirus), calicivirus infection, and rabies. These are dangerous diseases that can even be fatal in the absence of immunity. The vaccine is harmless to the body and requires annual renewal.
Content
General description
The manufacturer offers two vaccine variants: CRP and CRP/R. The latter differs by adding a rabies component. A single dose for each variant consists of two vials:
- lyophilisate (dry component) - a porous white mass of uniform consistency with live viruses, intended for the preparation of a suspension;
- solvent (liquid component) – a colorless transparent liquid.
The components are individually packaged in 1 cm³ and 1 ml glass vials, respectively. Hermetically sealed packaging is ensured by rubber stoppers, an aluminum cap, and a plastic seal. The vials, along with instructions for use, are placed in plastic containers containing 10 or 50 doses.

The vaccine is suitable for use for 24 months from the date of manufacture, provided it is stored properly: at a temperature of 2-8°C, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Even brief freezing renders the vaccine completely unusable. Vaccination with unlabeled vaccines, vaccines containing foreign matter, or vaccines with damaged or compromised packaging is also prohibited.
Operating principle
Feligen is designed to stimulate an immune response in cats. to viruses panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and rabies. The vaccine begins to work in the body 14-21 days after revaccination and provides protection for 12 months or more.
The drug is classified as a "live vaccine," which, due to its attenuated live viruses, remains effective only when stored at the recommended temperature conditions. Once introduced into the body, the viruses multiply and stimulate the immunization processes necessary for developing immunity to the diseases.
The drug's effectiveness is due to the presence of weakened viruses of the aforementioned diseases, cultured in cat lung cells. This production method ensures maximum prophylactic effectiveness in these pets. Each immunizing dose contains the following strains:
- herpes virus type 1 (F2) – not less than 105-106.6 TCID50/ml;
- calicivirus (F9) – not less than 104.1-106.1 TCID50/ml;
- panleukopenia (LR 72) – not less than 103.7-104.5 TCID50/ml;
- rabies (VP12 Pasteur, min. 1 IU) – only for the Feligen CRP/R vaccine.

Lactose monohydrate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and water for injection are used as auxiliary components.
Indications for use
The primary purpose of Feligen is to prevent rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia, rabies, and calicivirus infections. The drug has no therapeutic properties because it lacks antibodies against viral infections. It does not have any harmful effects on cats, but it does help accustom them to the effects of these viruses and stimulate the production of their own antibodies to prevent infection.
Directions for use
Feligen is only approved for use in clinically healthy animals no earlier than 8 weeks of age, but 3 months of age is considered optimal. All animals are given the same dose, regardless of individual characteristics (age, breed, etc.).
Important! Before administering the drug, a preliminary examination of the animal by a veterinarian is required. The discovery of any health problems should be grounds for canceling the vaccination.
First, the solvent is injected into the vial containing the live vaccine using a sterile syringe, and the contents are mixed until the components combine into a homogeneous suspension. The injection route is subcutaneous, in the shoulder blade area. If the contents are not used within two hours after mixing, the solution becomes unsuitable for vaccination and requires decontamination by boiling for 15 minutes.

Vaccinations are administered twice, separated by 3-4 weeks, but the second time, a vaccine without the rabies component is selected. Subsequently, a single annual maintenance dose is required to maintain the effect.
Features of application
Before vaccinating with Feligen, it is important to consider the following:
- 10 days before the vaccination, your pet must be given a preventive vaccination. deworming.
- The vaccine's effectiveness may decrease when used in animals that have experienced stress.
- Accidental overdose does not cause signs of infection with panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, rabies or other pathological symptoms.
- Failure to schedule vaccinations may reduce their effectiveness. If you miss a dose, it is recommended to get vaccinated at the earliest opportunity.
- After Feligen, the use of other immunobiological, corticosteroid and antiviral drugs is permitted at least 14 days before or after vaccination.
- The appearance of a pea-sized swelling at the injection site is considered normal and resolves without additional measures within 21 days.
- Although immunity in animals develops within 14-21 days, in the case of upcoming travel by air or rail, it is recommended to revaccinate no later than 30 days before the departure date.

Contraindications and side effects
A strict contraindication to the use of Feligen in cats is hypersensitivity to the drug. Furthermore, vaccination is not permitted in the following cases:
- illnesses, upcoming operations or the recovery period after them;
- general weakened state of the body;
- period of pregnancy and lactation in females;
- treatment of the animal with other antiviral and immunobiological drugs or corticosteroids.
When used according to the instructions for use, the vaccine generally does not cause complications or adverse reactions. In rare cases, individual allergic reactions to the components may occur. If these occur, discontinue use of the vaccine and initiate symptomatic treatment.
Price
You can buy Feligen for cats at veterinary pharmacies or online pet stores. The medication requires strict transportation and storage conditions, so it's best to purchase it from reputable sources. A single dose of CPR or CRP/R costs between 364 and 380 rubles.

Owner reviews
Victoria, Murlik's owner:
We took in a weakened kitten six months ago, but we've been working hard to restore his health since then. Just a few days ago, we got him vaccinated with Feligen at the veterinary clinic. He barely ate, but he drank well and slept a lot. We gave him the shot in the morning, and by evening, Murlik had noticeably perked up. The next day, he was acting as if nothing had happened, and he had no problems going to the bathroom. I don't regret choosing this product."
Nina, the owner of the cat and the cat:
"I vaccinated my cat family with Feligen. Everything went well; they behaved as usual, and there was no lethargy. It's too early to talk about its effectiveness in our case, but judging by the feedback from friends, the vaccine works well."
Veterinarian Reviews
Nikolay, a veterinarian at a private clinic:
"Feligen is a high-quality, highly purified French vaccine that provides rapid and lasting immunity. It is recommended by the International Association of Veterinarians and is well tolerated by pets without causing side effects. The main thing is to follow all recommendations."
Sergey Yuryevich, a veterinarian with 8 years of experience:
"Feligen is a similar drug to Quadrikat, which is becoming increasingly difficult to find in Russia due to production being discontinued. I prescribe it to animals that haven't yet developed immunity to rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia, rabies, and calicivirus. The vaccine's live nature allows it to develop a robust immune response."

The vaccine is currently not readily available in Russia due to sanctions. The price is at least 1,000 rubles, and can be higher depending on the region.
I haven't used this vaccine, so I can't say anything.
