Entomosan S for cats

Entomosanum is a product designed to kill all types of parasitic insects (ticks, fleas, lice, chewing lice, and other arthropods). For cats, Entomosanum is used when symptoms of infestation are present, as well as as a preventative measure. It has a long-lasting effect, is low-toxic, and does not irritate cats' skin. The product is manufactured by the Russian scientific and production association "FOKS i Ko."

Fleas on a cat

Composition and principle of action

Entomosanum is packaged in 1 or 2 ml ampoules or 50 and 500 ml vials and contains a 10 or 20% insecticidal-acaricidal solution and auxiliary components that prolong its action and enhance its effectiveness. Before use, the product is diluted to the desired concentration by mixing with water.

The product is a liquid that forms a dispersed system when mixed with water. The active ingredient is the organic pyrethroid permethrin, which has a contact knockdown effect. It is lethal to insects immediately after application: upon contact with any part of the insect's body, the permethrin compound causes paralysis and rapid death.

Caution! Entomozan-S is classified as a moderately hazardous product. It does not irritate intact skin, but can cause burns to mucous membranes and, if ingested, poisoning. Therefore, when handling this insecticide, wear protective equipment (rubber gloves, mask). If Entomozan comes into contact with sensitive skin or mucous membranes, rinse immediately with water.

Indications for use

Entomosan-S is prescribed to cats when skin parasites are detected:

  • fleas,
  • lice eaters,
  • mites, including those parasitizing in the auricle Otodectes cynotis,
  • as a means of preventing otodectosis, entomoses, demodicosis, nothosdrosis and other skin diseases carried by blood-sucking arthropods.

Directions for use

The suspension is prepared before use. To do this, add 1 ml of the preparation to 200 ml of warm water, then shake the mixture thoroughly to ensure it is as homogeneous as possible. Using a sponge or spray bottle, carefully apply the resulting emulsion to the animal until the skin is moistened.

The insecticide application procedure is as follows: on the back, from head to tail; on the sides, from the spine to the abdomen. Finally, treat the neck and tail. Avoid contact with the eyes or mouth. After treatment, allow the cat to dry in a warm place. To prevent your pet from licking the applied product, you can muzzle it for 20-30 minutes.

The instructions state that Entomosan S provides protection for 2-3 weeks. If the cat's fur is heavily infested with insects, it is recommended to repeat the treatment every other day.

When using Entomosan to treat otodectosis (acariasis), the cat's ears are thoroughly cleaned, removing crusts and scabs. The prepared emulsion is then applied to the inner surface of the ears with a cotton or gauze pad, followed by gentle massage with the same pad. In cases of mite-induced acariasis, the treatment may need to be applied 4-5 times, and for complications such as infectious otitis, it is combined with anti-inflammatory medications and antibiotic therapy.

Entomosan S for cats

As a preventative measure, Entomozan S can be used by mixing the prepared insecticide emulsion with cat shampoo. The dosage is approximately 1 ml per 1 kg of the cat's weight; for long-haired breeds, this dosage can be doubled.

Important! Do not store the prepared emulsion; any remaining solution must be discarded. It will no longer have an insecticidal effect if used further, but if left undisturbed, it may pose a toxic hazard to animals and humans.

Contraindications

Contraindications include hypersensitivity to its components, including itching, skin inflammation, rashes, and other allergic reactions. Entomosan S should not be used on pregnant or nursing cats.

Owner reviews

Mikhail, owner of a Maine Coon cat:

"We live in a private house, so our cat spends quite a bit of time outside. There have been instances where our Redhead has picked up fleas from other cats while walking in the yard. He'd start scratching himself, and sometimes we'd even find them in his fur. A veterinarian who cares for our cat and Labrador suggested an effective remedy. We buy ampoules of Entomosan S from the pharmacy and periodically treat our cat, dog, and their sleeping surfaces with this insecticide. A single treatment is usually enough to keep fleas away for a couple of weeks. We're generally happy with this product, although a mild but rather unpleasant odor that lingers for several hours is a bit of a nuisance."

Natalia, the owner of the lapdog:

"I quickly cured my dog of ear mites with Entomozan S. This condition is caused by a microscopic mite, and animals suffer from severe itching and constantly scratch their ears. I prepared the emulsion as described in the instructions, cleaned my dog's ears, and thoroughly wiped the outer ears with a swab soaked in the emulsion. To ensure the product reaches the ear canal, the veterinarian recommended adding a couple of drops of the remaining solution to the ears. The product worked perfectly; I only needed to treat the ears three times."

Veterinarian Reviews

Sofia Romanovna Danik, certified felinologist:

"I have a small cattery where I raise elite cat breeds. Naturally, I have to use insecticidal and acaricidal products. I consider Entomosan S to be an effective remedy against fleas, ticks, and other parasites. The main advantage of this insecticide is its modest price and the ability to use it both for treating animals and for fumigating the premises where they live. I have never encountered any unwanted side effects."

 Lidiya Ivanovna Kucherenko, veterinarian:

"Everyone who has used Entomozan S says it quickly resolves insect problems in animals. However, to ensure the product is effective and doesn't harm your pet, you must strictly follow the instructions: dilute the contents of the ampoule or bottle correctly and apply the emulsion correctly. For example, if a cat has an Otodectes cynotis mite infestation in one ear, the other, healthy ear should also be treated with the insecticide. It's a good idea to follow up treatment with additional protective measures, such as an antiparasitic collar."

  • Never, ever, ever treat with water without diluting it! It was in an ampoule for fleas and ticks, we thought we'd just put a ml in each ear, and then a nightmare ensued! It must have burned all the dog's ears! The dog was screaming so loudly, his ears were red and hot, and he was shaking his head nonstop! We rinsed him in the bathtub and on the floor with a pressure washer, then with chlorhexidine! We washed him, but the dog was in pain all day!

  • A deadly drug. Specifically for cats! The instructions are so poorly written that it's completely unclear that the ampoule isn't a ready-to-use solution or emulsion! These ampoules are used for ready-to-use medications. Deadly for cats! We're saving our kitty.
