Enromag for cats

Enromag is a veterinary antibiotic successfully used in cats for various conditions caused by pathogenic bacteria. It was developed by specialists at the Moscow-based company Mosagrogen, although it cannot be considered a unique development. Medications with similar composition and action are available in pharmacies. The drug is generally considered safe, but its use is strictly prohibited unless prescribed by a doctor or without a definitive diagnosis.

General description

Enromag is available as a sterile injection solution. It is a clear liquid, sometimes light yellow or yellow in color. The antibacterial agent is packaged in glass vials sealed with rubber stoppers. This type of packaging is ideal for injection solutions, as it maintains their sterility for extended periods. Vials are available in two sizes: 20 ml and 100 ml. For cats, only the smaller vials should be purchased, as most of the medicinal solution will remain unused after treatment. Storing the medication in an opened vial for extended periods is not recommended.

Enromag for cats

The active ingredient of the drug is enrofloxacin. Its concentration in the solution can be 50 and 100 mg.

Important! Only a 5% Enromag solution is used for cats. Be careful when purchasing this medication at a pharmacy. Otherwise, the treatment may do more harm than good.

The antibiotic also contains additional substances that have no effect on the animal's body:

  • purified water;
  • hydroxide;
  • butyl alcohol.

How it works

Enromag is effective against various types of pathogenic bacteria. Its activity extends to the following harmful microorganisms:

  • E. coli;
  • clostridia;
  • Bordetella;
  • salmonella;
  • staphylococci;
  • proteins;
  • streptococci, etc.

The drug is characterized by rapid action. When the solution is administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly, the enrofloxacin concentration reaches its maximum value in just 30-60 minutes. The active substance is distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream, making it easy to use. antibiotic effective regardless of the location of the inflammatory process caused by bacteria.

Intramuscular injections to a cat

The therapeutic effect of the antibacterial agent lasts for 24 hours. The active component is eliminated from the body primarily in urine after a metabolic process that synthesizes a new substance.

Important! This antibiotic is classified as a moderately hazardous substance. Enromag is safe for cats when used according to the instructions.

When is it applied?

The antibacterial agent is prescribed to cats for the treatment of the following pathologies:

  • mycoplasmosis;
  • bronchopneumonia;
  • salmonellosis;
  • colibacillosis;
  • pasteurellosis;
  • other diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms.

Checking a cat for diseases

The drug can be used in combination with other medications. Their effects can be aimed at relieving symptoms and improving overall health, boosting immunity, etc.

Before starting treatment, the animal must be examined to detect any contraindications. Furthermore, the drug can only be used if the disease is caused by bacteria sensitive to this type of antibiotic.

Features of use

The instructions state that Enromag injections should be administered subcutaneously to cats. For small pets, it's better to use insulin syringes. This makes dosing easier, and the thin needle significantly reduces skin trauma.

A typical single dose for cats is 0.1 ml of a 5% solution per kilogram of body weight. In severe cases, the dose may be increased. The appropriate dosage should be determined by a veterinarian, as it depends on many factors:

  • general condition;
  • risk of complications;
  • severity of the disease;
  • symptoms;
  • the presence of chronic pathologies, etc.

Enromag 5%

Since Enromag's effect lasts for 24 hours, injections are given once daily. Sometimes a single dose is split into two doses. Treatment lasts 3-5 days. It is recommended to complete the entire prescribed course, otherwise pathogens will develop resistance to the antibiotic, and the disease will become chronic. However, excessive long-term use is also unacceptable. If treatment with Enromag is ineffective and the animal's condition does not improve within a few days, the doctor should select an alternative medication.

Please note: Due to the painful nature of the injections, it is not recommended to administer more than 2.5 ml to cats at one site.

When banned

Enromag, like other antibiotics, has contraindications. It should not be used in cats in the following cases:

  • if the animal has diseases of the nervous system accompanied by seizures;
  • during lactation;
  • during the period of gestation;
  • if there is an individual intolerance to the components;
  • for diseases of cartilage tissue.

It is strictly forbidden to administer antibacterial injections to kittens during their growth period. Enromag can disrupt the development of cartilage tissue, which can lead to serious pathologies.

Important! This medication should not be combined with other antibacterial agents, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or theophylline due to the risk of side effects. Only a physician should prescribe medications for combination treatment.

The antibiotic usually causes no side effects. The injection site may be painful. Overdose may cause the following symptoms:

  • vomit;
  • diarrhea;
  • depression;
  • poor appetite.

Allergic reactions due to intolerance occur extremely rarely.

What are the pros and cons?

Enromag is a safe and effective antibiotic that can be used on cats of all breeds. Its key benefits include:

  • the results of treatment are noticeable already on the second or third day;
  • no special conditions need to be observed during storage and transportation;
  • has a broad spectrum of action and is effective against many bacteria;
  • available in packages suitable for use by cats (20 ml);
  • easy to dose.

Another advantage is accessibility.

The main drawbacks include a number of contraindications and possible side effects if used incorrectly. If used as prescribed, these side effects can be avoided. For some owners, the dosage form is also a drawback. Not all pet owners are comfortable administering injections, so they sometimes request Enromag tablets instead. Injections allow the medication to act more quickly and effectively.

Price

A 20 ml bottle of the medication costs 75-85 rubles, while a larger bottle will cost 180-200 rubles. Although the antibiotic is not very popular, it is sold in many veterinary pharmacies. The medication can also be purchased online from specialized websites that specialize in selling medications and pet products.

Owner reviews

Valentina, owner of an 8-year-old cat:

"We gave him Enromag injections for cystitis. We also gave him Papaverine for urinary issues and herbal remedies. The cat recovered quite quickly after starting the antibiotics. He was weak after the injections, but I'm not sure if that was due to the medication or the illness. The advantage is the low price. It cost less than 100 rubles at our pharmacy."

Lyudmila, owner of a British cat:

"We were prescribed this antibiotic for urolithiasis to treat a secondary infection. The drug is effective, but it seemed to put my cat into a trance. For several hours after the injection, he lay motionless. When he fell asleep, I couldn't wake him. My impressions were mixed. If Enromag is prescribed again, I'll ask them to replace it with another medication."

Veterinarian Reviews

Mikhail, a veterinarian from a provincial town:

"I've been using Enromag in my practice for a long time. However, I inject it more often into large animals than into cats. The main advantage is its high effectiveness, and the low price means it's affordable for almost anyone. Weakness and other side effects are usually due to incorrect dosing. Self-medication is strictly contraindicated."

Oksana, veterinarian, 16 years of experience:

"Overall, enrofloxacin-based antibiotics are effective, but I don't use Enromag, nor other medications from lesser-known domestic companies. Nowadays, it's easy to find a suitable option from proven antibacterial agents. I use it most often." Baytril or other foreign equivalents. And although they are more expensive, safety comes first. Don't skimp on your pet's health!"

  • I'm very grateful to veterinarian Dr. Novikov for recommending ENROMAG. The medication started working almost immediately. After the second injection, my cat felt noticeably better. We completed a five-day course of treatment. I injected 0.35–0.4 mg (my cat weighs 3.5 kg). Those who say their cat went into a stupor after the injections likely administered an excessively high dose.
