Emicidine for dogs

Emicidin is a veterinary drug with antioxidant and antihypoxic properties used to treat a variety of conditions in dogs. It is most commonly used for cardiac and respiratory diseases, but can also be used as an adjuvant treatment for injuries and stress, post-surgery, and other conditions. The drug's unique formula, which has no analogues worldwide, was developed by Russian scientists at Agrovetzashchita.

General description

Emicidin is produced in two forms:

  • injection solution;
  • capsules for oral administration.

Emicidine for dogs

Injection solution

The injection solution is a clear, colorless liquid. It is packaged in 2 and 5 ml ampoules, which are then packed in cardboard boxes of 10. No special storage conditions are required. The main thing is to store the medication in a location protected from ultraviolet light (sun) and ensure the ambient temperature remains between 5 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The active ingredient is ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate, a derivative of 3-hydroxypyridine. 1 ml of the medicinal liquid contains 25 mg of this substance. Water for injection is an excipient. The active ingredient is natural and non-toxic. Since it does not contain any chemical components, the drug is considered safe for animals.

Capsules

Dog owners who are unfamiliar with administering injections to their pets are better off using Emicidin capsules for oral administration. The hard gelatin capsules are elongated and typically white on one side and blue, green, or red on the other. They are packaged in blisters, with each blister typically containing 10 capsules. A cardboard box contains 3 blisters, or 30 capsules.

When purchasing this medication, please note that capsules may contain 15 mg of the active ingredient (suitable for small dogs) or 50 mg (suitable for larger pets). In addition to ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate, the composition also includes talc and other excipients. This dosage form should be stored under the same conditions.

What is the price?

The price of Emicidin varies depending on the form of release and the content of the active substance:

  • capsules 15 mg, 30 pcs. – about 200 rubles;
  • capsules 50 mg, 30 pcs. – about 300 rubles;
  • solution, 2 ml ampoules, 10 pcs. – about 430 rubles;
  • solution, 5 ml ampoules, 10 pcs. – about 600 rubles.

Prices are taken from online pharmacies; the cost of the medication may be slightly higher in regular veterinary pharmacies. Some pharmacies sell ampoules individually and capsules in blisters. A prescription is not required.

Pharmacological properties

The drug's active ingredient can influence metabolic processes. It increases cell membrane activity, affects energy metabolism, and lipid oxidation processes, which can lead to oxygen deficiency. Emicidin has the following properties:

  • binds free radicals and promotes their elimination from the body;
  • improves blood circulation in the brain;
  • reduces cholesterol levels and prevents heart disease;
  • slows down the aging process;
  • improves tissue regeneration;
  • reduces intoxication during poisonings (food and chemical);
  • stimulates the heart after illnesses;
  • helps to recover from injuries and severe pathologies.

By normalizing metabolic processes, the animal's body develops resistance to negative factors. The drug helps prevent or reduce the negative consequences of stressful situations.

Dog and medicine

When administered by injection, the active ingredient quickly penetrates all organs and tissues via the bloodstream. Emicidin takes effect within 30-60 minutes. When administered orally, the drug takes slightly longer to take effect, but reaches its maximum concentration within 4-6 hours. The drug is eliminated through the kidneys in the urine after metabolism.

Emidicine is considered a safe medication. It has no adverse effects on the animal's body, does not affect the development of offspring, and does not accumulate in the body or cause addiction.

Indications for use

According to the instructions for use, Emicidin is recommended for dogs with the following health problems:

  • in case of oxygen deficiency;
  • for heart pathologies in acute and chronic form;
  • in case of pulmonary heart failure.

The medication can also be used to prevent the development of the above-mentioned diseases. In combination with other medications, it is also used in the following cases:

  • during stress and nervous shocks;
  • for wounds, burns and other injuries;
  • for trophic ulcers;
  • for problems with the digestive system;
  • in cases of poisoning and intoxication;
  • at dermatitis;
  • in case of necrosis;
  • for purulent inflammations.

Sad dog

The medicine is often used during rehabilitation after surgery and serious illnesses.

Please note: Emicidin is recommended for dogs over 7 years of age to prevent heart disease and other conditions.

Instructions for use in veterinary medicine

According to the instructions, Emicidin injections for dogs can be administered subcutaneously and intramuscularly. The drug can also be administered intravenously via drip at a rate of 60 drops per minute. The dose is 1-4 ml per 10 kg of body weight. The exact dosage should be calculated by a veterinarian based on the animal's pathology, symptoms, and overall condition. If the drug is used to prevent health problems, 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight is usually sufficient. Injections are administered once or twice daily. The duration of treatment should also be determined by a veterinarian, but typically lasts 5-15 days.

If the drug is used to maintain the health of older animals, the dosage is calculated as follows: 1 ml per 10 kg. Injections are administered once daily for 10-30 days. Courses are recommended in spring and fall.

Subcutaneous injection for a dog

The capsules are administered to dogs by force (placed on the tongue) twice daily if used for therapeutic purposes. For preventative purposes, one dose per day is sufficient. If force-feeding is difficult, the capsule contents can be sprinkled into a small amount of food. Duration of use ranges from 10 to 30 days, depending on the pet's overall condition.

A single dose is calculated based on weight:

  • for dogs weighing from 5 to 10 kg you will need 1 capsule of 15 mg;
  • for representatives of medium breeds (from 10 to 30 kg) you need to take 2 capsules of 15 mg;
  • for animals weighing 30-50 kg, 1 capsule of 50 mg is needed;
  • For large pets weighing more, you should take 2-3 capsules of 50 mg.

Please note! Emicidine can be combined with antibacterial and anthelmintic drugs, vitamin complexes and other drugs.

Contraindications and side effects

Emicidin has no contraindications. It can be used in pregnant and lactating females, as well as in elderly and weakened animals. Problems may arise only in case of intolerance to the components, but this is extremely rare, as the ingredients are considered hypoallergenic, meaning they do not cause allergic reactions.

Sad dog

The instructions state that no side effects have been reported. However, if your pet has an individual intolerance, an allergic reaction may occur.

Owner reviews

Margarita, the hostess collie:

"Our dog is already 16 years old. A friend recommended giving her Emicidin to maintain her health. After the course, she clearly perked up, became more active and playful, started running around more, and her appetite improved. I think this is a very good treatment for senior dogs. It has no contraindications, so it can be used without restrictions."

Igor, the owner of a Rottweiler:

"We noticed that our dog, Rocky, was having trouble running when he was seven years old. He would start breathing heavily with even the slightest exertion. After an examination, doctors diagnosed heart failure. We completed a full course of treatment, which made him feel much better. The veterinarian recommended Emicidin as a preventative measure. The injections are painful, so we buy capsules. We take the course twice a year. It's impossible to completely cure Rocky, but this medication prolongs his life, so I sincerely thank the developers."

Veterinarian Reviews

Vlada, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:

"Emicidin is a new-generation antioxidant, a good support for the elderly or ailing body. Essentially, it's an analogue of vitamin B6, so it's not likely to harm an animal when used correctly. I often prescribe it in combination with other medications as a supportive treatment. I personally haven't noticed any side effects during the entire period of use."

Vladimir, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:

"It's a good medication. I use it successfully for heart disease, as well as other health issues. I recommend it to owners of older dogs. I've noticed that it improves the quality of life in older pets. It's important to remember that this isn't a cure-all, but rather a medication that's best used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan."
