Instructions for use, release form
Exekan is available in the form of sucrose-based tablets. The active ingredients of the medication are:
- methionine (in quantity 300 mg);
- pyridoxine hydrochloride (50 mg);
- nicotinamide (10 mg);
- dexamethasone (1 mg).

Price
The price of Exekan for dogs is 1000-1200 rubles for 16 cubes, and the dosage is calculated by a veterinarian based on the animal's breed, age, and weight.
According to the instructions for use of Exekan for dogs, the dosage should be as follows:
- puppies over 8 months old and small breed dogs weighing 1-5 kg should be given half a briquette per day;
- Animals weighing between 5 and 15 kg receive 1 cube per day; 15 to 30 kg receive 1.5 briquettes per day; over 30 kg receive 2 cubes.
The standard dosage will help eliminate the primary allergy symptoms and inflammation in approximately 4 days. In rare cases, when the dog's body shows little or no response to treatment, therapy is extended for another 8 days, but the daily dosage should be reduced by half. After prolonged treatment with Exekan (longer than 12 days), a gradual reduction in dosage is recommended. This means giving the dog a quarter of the recommended dose over two days. Abrupt discontinuation of therapy may cause polyuria and polydipsia.
If for any reason your pet refuses to eat the sweet bar, you can dissolve the product in a small amount of water or mix it with the food.
Indications for use
According to reviews and instructions, Exekan for dogs quickly relieves unpleasant allergy symptoms, as well as non-infectious inflammation. Your veterinarian may also prescribe dexamethasone-based sugar tablets if your pet suffers from:
- eczema;
- dermatitis (as flea, and seborrheic);
- joint inflammation (including arthritis);
- liver diseases;
- metabolic disorders;
- gastrointestinal diseases;
- chronic intoxication.

In rare cases, Exekan is prescribed to lower cortisol levels before surgery.
Operating principle
To understand how the drug works, let's look at its composition.
Dexamethasone
It is involved in many natural bodily functions. Specifically, this synthetic hormone helps the body quickly metabolize proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, which leads to an anti-inflammatory effect. In medicine, it is classified as a corticosteroid (a hormone produced by the adrenal glands).
It affects the animal's immune system, blocking the production of cells responsible for inflammatory and allergic reactions. Due to this property, dexamethasone helps quickly relieve symptoms such as swelling, irritation, redness, burning, and itching of the skin.
Please note! Dexamethasone does not affect viruses or bacteria. Therefore, before beginning treatment, it is important to ensure that the unpleasant symptoms are not caused by the overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms.
Methionine
This is an essential amino acid that a dog's body cannot produce on its own. It's crucial to ensure your pet gets enough of it in their food. Methionine is added to the medication to acidify urine, enhancing the detoxification process. It is this component that allows the medication to have a beneficial effect on the dog's liver. However, using sugar cubes solely for liver treatment is not recommended. Your veterinarian can recommend safer and more effective medications.
Nicotinamide
Responsible for comprehensive skin health. This vitamin is naturally found in many foods, including liver, beef, fish, poultry, eggs, and legumes. Nicotinamide enhances the effects of dexamethasone and helps accelerate the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Vitamin PP also helps promote gastrointestinal health. A severe deficiency can cause rapid weight loss, darkening of the tongue, increased salivation, diarrhea, and stomach ulcers. However, Exekan is not prescribed solely for replenishing vitamin PP.

Pyridoxine
Responsible for restoring the normal barrier function of the epidermis, it is a form of vitamin B6 that, when ingested by a dog, is converted into an enzymatically active form: pyridoxal-5-phosphate. This coenzyme activates the metabolism and transformation of amino acids.
Side effects of Exekan
The drug's instructions indicate that the only common side effect of therapy may be vomiting. However, reviews of Exekan for dogs indicate that long-term therapy is complicated by:
- manifestation of constant unexplained fatigue;
- loss of appetite;
- gagging;
- drowsiness;
- urinary tract disorders;
- suppression of the immune system;
- hyperglycemia;
- lethargy;
- development of Cushing's disease;
- constant thirst.
Vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea occurring simultaneously should be a particular concern. It's quite possible your pet is developing a severe intolerance or an overdose. Since the medication is very sweet, a dog left unsupervised could consume the entire package of cubes. It's essential to seek emergency veterinary care as soon as possible, as an overdose can lead to serious complications or even death.
Contraindications
Because Exekan is available as a dog treat, some owners mistakenly believe it can be given to their pets as a preventative measure or without first consulting a veterinarian. In fact, it is strictly contraindicated for dogs suffering from viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. The medication should also not be given to animals suffering from an overdose of B vitamins, or to pregnant or lactating dogs.
Other diseases for which it is strictly forbidden to treat a dog with Exekan:
- diabetes;
- heart problems;
- osteoporosis.
Sugar bricks should be given to dogs with extreme caution and only after consulting a veterinarian. Unreasonable use of the medication can be harmful to the animal's health.
Failure to follow dosage instructions may result in development of ulcers on the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, edema, and hypokalemia. However, if the veterinarian has calculated a dosage higher than indicated in the instructions, do not be overly cautious and underdose the medication. In this case, the dog's recovery may be delayed, and prolonged use of even small doses of Exekan can lead to toxicity.

If a daily dose is missed, the sugar cube should be given as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, do not double the dose.
Attention! It is strictly forbidden to combine Exekan with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirinAlthough the instructions do not prohibit supplementing the treatment with external agents designed to quickly relieve allergy symptoms.
With very long-term use (more than 14 days), it can cause irreversible hormonal and metabolic changes in the dog, so if two weeks of therapy have not produced any results, you should consult a veterinarian to prescribe a different drug.
Reviews of Exekan
Angelina, Moscow
"My dog developed a severe allergy: a red rash and itching around her neck. Since we hadn't given her any new food, we decided to take her to the vet. Only after scrapings was it determined that the itching was caused by her new collar (even though she'd been wearing it for several weeks without any problems). Exekan was prescribed as her primary medication. Since the vet recommended giving just one tablet once a day for four days, I decided against buying the 16-tablet package and asked the pharmacist to sell me individual tablets (they cost 100 rubles each). The medication itself resembles regular sugar, so my dog ate it without issue. The itching subsided within 24 hours. I continued the treatment anyway to maintain the effect. The medication worked perfectly, and I now keep a few tablets in my veterinary medicine cabinet."
Marina, Tula
"My toy terrier developed an allergy to a new food. Even after I eliminated the new brand from his diet, flaky, itchy lesions remained on his skin. The veterinarian recommended Exekan for dogs. The medication worked very quickly, but the next day, he began vomiting and having diarrhea. The symptoms subsided immediately after stopping the food, but the itching returned. I had to go to the vet for a customized allergy medication."
