General description
Exekan is available in the form of briquettes, also known as sugar cubes. These cubes are so named because the excipient is sucrose. Each briquette has a small groove in the middle, making it easy to divide into two equal parts. They are packaged in blisters of eight. A cardboard package contains two blisters, but many pharmacies sell sugar cubes individually.

To preserve the medicinal properties of this medication, store it away from direct sunlight and heat sources at a temperature between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. Keep the briquettes out of reach of children and pets, so it's best to store them on the top shelf of a cabinet or another hidden place. Do not store the medication near pet food or other foodstuffs. Do not use this medication on cats if the expiration date has passed. Dispose of the medication according to legal requirements.
How much does it cost and where can I buy it?
The price of Exekan may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy, but the average price per pack ranges from 1,050 to 1,200 rubles. Since cats typically don't need a full pack, buying individual briquettes costs 65-75 rubles per cube. The medication can be purchased at any veterinary pharmacy or pet store. If you can't find the medication at your local retailer, you can order it from an online pharmacy specializing in veterinary medications.
Composition and pharmacological properties
The high effectiveness of the drug is due to the fact that it contains 4 main components:
- Dexamethasone Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. It works by stabilizing cell membrane permeability and inhibiting the production of substances involved in inflammatory processes. Dexamethasone is absorbed in the intestines and quickly reaches all organs and tissues via the bloodstream.
- Methionine is an essential amino acid that prevents fat accumulation in the liver. It also neutralizes toxic substances and promotes their elimination from the body.
- Nicotinamide, or vitamin PP, is involved in metabolic processes. It promotes skin and hair restoration in cases of dermatitis and eczema. It also has a positive effect on the digestive system, but a deficiency can result in weight loss.
- Pyridoxine or vitamin B6 stimulates metabolism, initiates regenerative processes, and improves the condition of the skin.
Thanks to its complex composition, Exekan has the following effect:
- relieves itching;
- eliminates inflammation;
- helps cleanse the liver of toxins;
- improves metabolism;
- stimulates the restoration of the skin and hair.

In terms of its potency, the medication is considered low-risk. Its components do not accumulate in the body. It is non-addictive and does not have a negative impact on the liver; in fact, it improves liver function.
Instructions for use
The instructions for use indicate that Exekan for cats is used for eczema, as well as chronic and acute allergic dermatitis, if they are not caused by bacteria, infections, or fungi.
Cats are given sugar cubes orally. In most cases, they are simply hand-fed. Since the briquettes have a characteristic sweet taste due to the sucrose they contain, pets usually eat them without issue. If your cat is picky, you can administer the medication in other ways:
- dissolve the briquette in a small amount of water and give it to the animal to drink, if necessary, force it with a syringe without a needle;
- Crush the medicine into powder and mix with food.

The dosage of the hormonal anti-inflammatory drug for cats is calculated simply. For the first four days, the daily dose is 0.5 cc. The animal's weight and breed are irrelevant. Usually, one or two doses are sufficient to eliminate the symptoms of allergic dermatitis, which can be caused by food, synthetic materials, or other allergens. After the first four days, the daily dose is reduced by half, to ¼ of a briquette, and treatment is continued for another eight days.
Please note! Do not use this medication without prior examination, testing, and consultation with a veterinarian.
Exekan can be used with other medications, including topical treatments (ointments, gels, powders). Combining this hormonal medication with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not recommended.
The medication must be taken strictly as prescribed—once daily. Missing a dose may reduce its therapeutic effect. If a missed dose cannot be avoided, resume taking the medication as soon as possible, maintaining the same dosage. In this case, there is no need to increase the dose.
Contraindications and side effects
Exekan is strictly contraindicated for dermatitis caused by fungi or bacteria. This is because the medication only relieves symptoms but cannot address the underlying cause. If the skin condition is caused by an infection, latent symptoms can only worsen the condition and lead to complications.
Also, the drug should not be used in the following cases:
- for pregnant and lactating cats;
- with diabetes mellitus;
- in infectious pathologies.
Since the drug affects the animal's hormonal balance, a doctor's consultation is necessary if there are problems with the endocrine system.

When Exekan is used for cats according to the instructions, there are no side effects. In rare cases, a gag reflex may occur; in such cases, it's recommended to mix the medication with food or dilute it in water. Sometimes, animals experience:
- increased cravings for food, increased appetite;
- intense thirst;
- frequent urination (usually occurs with large fluid intake).
Overdose can cause serious health problems, including Cushing's syndrome. Signs of this may include hair loss, decreased potassium levels in the blood, swelling, and osteoporosis. The following side effects may also occur:
- gastrointestinal mucosal lesions;
- lowering blood pressure;
- convulsions.
If any side effects occur, discontinue use of the medication and consult a doctor immediately. Delay may result in worsening your pet's health.

Owner reviews
Nastya, owner of a 5-year-old cat:
"My cat was constantly scratching herself, but I didn't pay much attention until we went to the vet. He suspected a metabolic disorder. It turned out she had a food allergy. We had to completely change Lucy's diet and used Exekan as treatment. It's a good product, and within two days, the scratching had almost completely stopped. The only downside was that our cat refused to eat the cubes. We had to dilute them in water and force-feed her. It's an unpleasant procedure, but you'd do anything to help your beloved pet get better."
Marina, owner of a white chinchilla:
"Our cat was diagnosed with a protein allergy. We adjusted her diet. The doctor also prescribed immune-boosting shots and Exekan to relieve the itching. We administered the medication as prescribed by the veterinarian, but on the second day, the cat began acting strangely. Her pupils were dilated, her head was held high, and her neck was tense. Once we stopped administering the medication, her behavior returned to normal. The doctor said it was an individual intolerance, which is rare. Incidentally, even two doses were enough to stop the itching."
Veterinarian Reviews
Nikita, a veterinarian at a provincial clinic:
"Exekan is a real lifesaver for pets with allergies. It quickly relieves itching and other unpleasant symptoms, but I wouldn't use it without consulting a doctor. An overdose can cause serious health problems and even death if treatment isn't provided promptly. One of the advantages is its availability. In our provincial town, the drug is always available at the pharmacy."
Tatyana, a veterinarian with 11 years of experience:
"Exekan is one of the best medications for the treatment of allergic dermatitis, but it's important to remember that it's hormonal. Uncontrolled use can cause side effects. In my practice, there have been cases where the drug caused intense thirst and other side effects, but thankfully, there have been no fatalities."
