Dosage form
Dironet for cats is available in the following dosage forms:
- Suspension. The viscous yellow liquid is packaged in polymer vials, which are always equipped with dosing syringes. The main components that kill roundworms and tapeworms are praziquantel, pyrantela pamoate, ivermectin.
- Dironet Junior. The suspension formula is specially designed for kittens. The main difference is the composition. The main component is pyrantel pamoate, which effectively kills worms, while sodium ribonucleate promotes intestinal wall regeneration.
- Pills. Blister-packed tablets contain the same active ingredients as the suspension for adult cats, but their concentration is significantly higher. Calculating the correct dosage is difficult, so tablets are rarely used for cats, and are more often used for dogs.
- Spot-on drops. Drops for external use differ from suspensions and tablets in their broader action. They kill not only helminths but also lice, fleas, and other insects that infest animals. Drops are available in two versions: for cats (1 ml) and for kittens (0.5 ml). The active ingredients are ivermectin and praziquantel.

Important! When purchasing medication, pay attention to the concentration of active ingredients. This will help avoid overdose. It's best to consult a doctor before use.
Operating principle
Dironet effectively kills roundworms and tapeworms, while the topical drops also effectively combat external parasites. The suspension and drops work slightly differently.
The active ingredients of the suspension are absorbed in the intestines upon administration. They begin to act quickly, reaching peak concentrations in just 2-4 hours. Ivermectin, praziquantel, and pyrantel pamoate work synergistically. Upon entering the animal's body, they act on the parasites. Due to disruptions in nerve impulse transmission and increased permeability of cell membranes, the parasites die within a short period of time.
When applied to the withers, the active ingredients largely accumulate in the hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and scalp. They not only effectively kill ectoparasites but also prevent further infestation for a certain period. Some of the active ingredients penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream, spreading throughout the body, and can therefore also kill internal parasites.
Price
When purchasing Dironet for cats, please note that the price depends on the dosage form:
- spot-on drops 3 pcs. 1 ml each – 250-300 rubles;
- suspension for adult animals 10 ml – 180-230 rub.;
- Junior suspension 10 ml – 190-240 rub.;
- 6 tablets – 190-230 rubles.
Indications for use
Tablets and suspension are given to cats to treat cestodiasis and nematodiasis, as well as mixed helminthic infestations. The drug is also suitable for preventative purposes. When administered regularly, quarterly, it can protect the animal from internal parasites. The medication is also used to prevent dirofilariasis, but it should be noted that its components do not affect adult dirofilariasis (the parasite that causes the disease) and are not suitable for treatment.

According to the instructions, Dironet spot-on for cats has a broader range of indications. It is used to treat and prevent the following conditions:
- helminthic infestations caused by roundworms and/or tapeworms;
- otodectosis;
- entomosis;
- notoedrosis;
- sarcoptosis and other pathologies caused by external parasites.
Please note: To avoid overdose, it is not recommended to combine Dironet with other antiparasitic medications.
How to apply
The specifics of using Dironet for cats depend on the dosage form and concentration of the active ingredients, so carefully read the instructions for use before starting treatment.
Suspension
For the treatment of helminthic infestations, the medication is administered as a single dose. It is best to do this before the morning feeding. The dosage is simple: 1 ml of suspension per 1 kg of animal. When using the medication for kittens weighing up to 0.5 kg, mix the medication with 0.3 ml of boiled cold water.

Because the medication has a salmon aroma and flavor, most cats eat it without any problem. The suspension can be squeezed from a syringe onto the back of the tongue. If this is too stressful for your pet, it's best to mix a small amount of the medication with their food. Shake the antiparasitic medication well before use, as it tends to separate.
If the medication is used prophylactically, it is administered every three months, as well as before vaccinations and mating. There is no need to restrict the animal's food intake or give it a laxative before administering Dironet.
Please note! The dosage for Dironet Junior is calculated the same way, but the suspension can be used for kittens 3 weeks of age and older.
Pills
The dosage of anthelmintic tablets is calculated as follows: 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight. It is not recommended to administer the medication to small kittens, as measuring the correct amount can be difficult.

Tablets are administered orally or mixed with food. For the treatment of nematodes and cestodes, they are given as a single dose; for prophylaxis, the procedure is repeated quarterly.
Spot-on drops
The drops are packaged in polymer dropper tubes, making them easy to use. Simply break off the tip and apply the contents to the withers, dropping them in 3-4 inaccessible spots. For kittens, the dose is 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight. When applying, adhere to the following dosages:
- for animals less than 1 kg – 3 drops;
- for pets over 1 kg – 5 drops.
For adult cats, the dose is 0.2 ml per 1 kg of body weight. When purchasing the medication, consider your pet's weight to select the appropriate dropper size.

Depending on the pathology, the following application schemes are used:
- To get rid of fleas or lice, the drug is applied to the skin once; to prevent infestation, it is applied once a month.
- To treat ear mites, the medication is applied to the skin once. If necessary, the procedure is repeated after a month. If complications arise, antibiotics and other medications may be used in addition.
- At notoedrosis And sarcoptosis The drops are applied 2-4 times with an interval of 12-14 days. To prevent relapse, the procedure is repeated after a month.
- If the main purpose of use is – worm prevention, the drug is used once a month.
Please note: After applying the drops, do not bathe your pet for 4 days.
Contraindications and side effects
Dironet, regardless of the dosage form, should not be used in cats in the following cases:
- for weakened and exhausted animals;
- during pregnancy and lactation;
- until reaching 2 months of age;
- in infectious diseases;
- in case of intolerance to the components.
In case of chronic kidney or liver diseases, you should consult a doctor.

The drug is considered safe and rarely causes gastrointestinal side effects, including weakness and apathy. Overdose may cause the following symptoms:
- nausea and vomiting;
- muscle tremor;
- impaired coordination of movement;
- excessive salivation;
- weakness, etc.
In this case, measures should be taken to remove the components of the drug from the animal’s body and, if necessary, use symptomatic treatment.
Owner reviews
Ksenia, owner of a 3-month-old kitten:
"My kitten's health is important to me, so we do worming treatments regularly. The only kitten medication available at the pharmacy was Dironet Junior, so I bought that. She didn't resist taking it. There were no side effects. She's also worm-free (we had tests done afterwards)."
Anya, the owner of a lop-eared cat:
"At first, the vet prescribed a deworming suspension. We couldn't administer the medication to our spoiled beauty because she was struggling and resisting. When we contacted the doctor, he recommended Dironet spot-on. We now use this medication regularly and have had no problems with worms or other parasites."
Veterinarian Reviews
Victor, a veterinarian with 12 years of experience:
"Dironet is an effective antiparasitic medication from a domestic manufacturer. I work in a small provincial town, where there isn't a wide selection of veterinary medications, but this medication is always available at the pharmacy. I usually recommend using spot-on drops because they have a broad spectrum of action."
Valentina Alekseevna, a veterinarian with 15 years of experience:
"In my practice, I prefer to use medications from foreign manufacturers, although I do occasionally prescribe Dironet. I mostly recommend it for parasite prevention. The medication is effective against this and rarely causes side effects. However, owners should remember that it is, after all, a poison and should not ignore the veterinarian's recommendations."
