Delcid for cats and dogs

General description

Delcid is an antiparasitic concentrate used to prepare an emulsion. The drug is not used in its pure form due to its high active ingredient content. It is an oily, transparent liquid. It can be colorless or have a yellowish tint, sometimes brown. When mixed with water, it forms a white liquid. The concentrate is packaged in 2 ml glass ampoules. A box contains five ampoules, but some pharmacies sell them individually.

Delcid's active ingredient is the pyrethroid deltamethrin, which has pronounced antiparasitic properties. Other ingredients are also present, but they serve only as auxiliary components. A full list of ingredients can be found on the packaging or instructions.

Delcid for cats and dogs

The external parasite control product should be stored at temperatures between 0 and 30°C. Store away from food and feed, as it contains highly toxic components.

Action

The product is based on deltramethrin, which has a broad spectrum of insecticidal and acaricidal activity. It is capable of killing various types of parasites:

Delcid works by blocking nerve impulse transmission. Disruptions in the nervous system lead to paralysis and ultimately death of the parasites. Deltamethrin is unique in that it acts both intestinally and contact-acting, making it highly effective.

Fleas after treating an animal

Delcid is considered safe for pets when used according to recommended dosages and directions, but it can cause irritation if it comes into contact with mucous membranes. Even when diluted, it is dangerous for fish and bees. Use with caution if you have an aquarium.

Price

The price of a 5-ampule pack of Delcid ranges from 180 to 250 rubles. The medication is sold in almost all veterinary pharmacies, so it's easy to find. You can also order the antiparasitic medication online.

When and how to apply

This product is designed to combat ectoparasites on pets. It can also be used for room disinfection. This means Delcid helps kill fleas and ticks on cats and dogs, preventing re-infestation.

Animal handling

According to the instructions, Delcid for dogs and cats can be used as a bathing solution or spray. Before use, the antiparasitic agent is diluted in cool water. Regular tap water can be used for this purpose.

If spraying is planned, dilute one ampoule in 1.6 liters of water. Consider purchasing a small hand-held sprayer beforehand. When treating cats and dogs, follow these guidelines:

  1. Treatment begins with the head, then the back and stomach are sprayed, and finally the area near the anus and paws.
  2. Particular attention should be paid to the ears, folds and other hard-to-reach places where external parasites like to hide.
  3. If your pet has long hair, you should lift it with your hands while spraying so that the prepared emulsion penetrates the skin.
  4. When spraying, cover the animal's eyes, nose and mouth to prevent the solution from getting on the mucous membranes.
  5. The amount of diluted emulsion depends on the animal's weight. For every kilogram, 5-10 ml of solution is required, depending on the severity of the insect infestation.
  6. When treating, pay attention to areas where insects congregate or where ticks have bitten in.

If you decide to bathe your animal, make a less concentrated solution (1 ampoule per 6 liters of water) to prevent the medicine from causing toxic poisoning.

Fleas on a cat

If Delcid is used prophylactically, a single treatment is required. It is advisable to use the product only in cases where there is a risk of infection, such as during summer vacations at the dacha. If fleas, ticks, or other ectoparasites are detected on a cat or dog, treatment should be repeated 2-3 times at 7-10 day intervals until the absence of parasites is confirmed by clinical examination of scrapings.

Please note! Do not bathe your pet 2-3 days before treatment and 3 days after. Avoid using shampoos during this period.

Treatment of premises

When treating rooms, dilute one ampoule of Delcid in 1-1.5 liters of water. Then, proceed in the following order:

  1. The room should be thoroughly vacuumed, paying special attention to areas behind cabinets, armchairs and sofas, as well as other hard-to-reach places.
  2. Spray the prepared emulsion throughout the room. Be sure to treat baseboards and other hidden spots where pests like to nest.
  3. It is advisable to wash the floor with a solution or you can spray it generously.
  4. After treatment, close the room completely for 30-40 minutes.
  5. Then, the room should be thoroughly ventilated. There's no need to wash the floors with clean water. If surfaces you come into contact with, such as tables, were treated, they should be wiped with a damp cloth.

Apartment pest control

If there are numerous insects in the house, the treatment should be repeated after 7-10 days, as the product only works on adult insects. If fleas or lice are found on the animal, the room must be treated. The bedding must be thoroughly treated or completely replaced.

Contraindications and side effects

According to the instructions, Delcid should not be used on cats and dogs that are exhausted or have suffered serious illnesses. The product should not be used on pregnant females if there are less than two weeks left before the due date.

If your pet is intolerant to any of the ingredients, an allergic reaction may occur. This may include vomiting and nausea, increased salivation, muscle tremors, and apathy. Similar symptoms may also occur with an overdose. The pet is given antihistamine (anti-allergy) medication and measures are taken to eliminate the drug from the body. Enterosorbents, which help reduce the toxic effects of Delcid, are well suited for this purpose. In addition, any remaining medication should be thoroughly rinsed with water. You can bathe your cat or dog with shampoo.

How to wash a cat

Please note: If the medication comes into contact with mucous membranes, rinse immediately with plenty of water to prevent irritation.

Security measures

When using Delcid, you should follow a number of rules:

  1. During the procedure, use gloves and a protective mask.
  2. It's best to spray your pets outdoors. If this isn't possible, open the windows and ventilate the area well.
  3. After treatment, pets should not be petted or handled for 2 days. If there are small children in the house, they should be prevented from coming into contact with the animals during this period.
  4. After the procedure, hands should be washed thoroughly in warm water and soap.

Protection when working with Delcid

Please note! Do not allow your cat or dog to lick the solution. To prevent this, place a collar, tape, or muzzle on the animal until it dries completely.

Owner reviews

Artem, owner of a Siberian cat:

"My handsome cat has a luxurious coat, but fleas are a real nuisance. I've tried various treatments—collars, drops, etc.—but the results are either nonexistent or short-lived. But Delcid helped get rid of the scourge. I bathed him in the solution once, and he's had no more fleas. The condition of his coat hasn't been affected at all. It's a good, albeit inexpensive, product."

Victor, owner of a 7-year-old dog:

"We live in a private house. Our dog lives in a kennel. Lately, I noticed he was constantly scratching himself, and during a checkup, I noticed fleas. The veterinarian recommended Delcid. I diluted the concentrate and treated both the dog and the kennel with it. I repeated the treatment 10 days later. Now, there's no sign of the unpleasant incident."

Lyudmila, owner of a 5-year-old cat:

"We couldn't get rid of the scabies mite for a long time. It was unbearable to watch my cat constantly scratch. The medications prescribed by the vet weren't helping. I accidentally learned about this product from a friend. One treatment was enough to stop the cat from scratching."

Veterinarian Reviews

Tatyana, a veterinarian with 7 years of experience:

"This is an affordable and effective product, but it is highly toxic. It should only be used diluted. Particular caution should be exercised when administering this medication to cats and small dogs. Be sure to consult a veterinarian before use."

Tamara, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:

"It's a 100% effective product, BUT it's very toxic, so you need to be careful and attentive when using it. I've seen a lot of negative reviews online, but I want to say that poisonings are mostly caused by the owner's fault. It's absolutely forbidden to use highly concentrated products!"
