Composition and release form
Developed by an international pharmaceutical company, this anthelmintic is available in tablet form. It has several distinctive features:
- yellow;
- brown inclusions;
- round shape;
- cross-shaped notches on one side for easy separation.

Cardboard packages usually contain blisters with 2 (more popular) or 10 tablets.
The drug is characterized by high efficacy and a broad spectrum of action. This is achieved by containing three active ingredients:
- praziquantel;
- febantel;
- pyrantel embonate.
Thanks to its complex action (the substances enhance and complement each other's actions), the medicine is effective against roundworms and tapeworms at all stages of development.
Please note that the tablets are available in two versions, with different concentrations of active ingredients - for all dogs and large breeds.
The anthelmintic's distinctive meaty aroma makes it a favorite treat for most animals. In addition to the flavoring, the following additional ingredients are used:
- cornstarch;
- povidone;
- lactose;
- microcrystalline cellulose;
- other components.

How does it work?
Dehinel is used to combat cestodes and nestodes, as it is a complex medication. Its components have the following effects on parasites:
- disrupt energy metabolism and prevent the absorption of lactose, which is necessary for life;
- cause muscle contraction;
- contribute to paralysis;
- increase the permeability of cell membranes.
This action kills the worms. A key advantage of this medication is its rapid action. The maximum concentration, lethal to the parasites, is reached within just one hour. Dehinel Plus not only kills the worms but also promotes their elimination from the dog's body. They are usually passed in the stool within the first two days after administration.
Indications for use
The instructions for use provide a complete list of conditions for which Dehinel Plus is prescribed for dogs. Since the medication is effective against roundworms and tapeworms, it is prescribed for the following parasitic conditions:
- with toxocariasis;
- with echinococcosis;
- at hookworm;
- for diphyllobothriasis;
- for toxascariasis;
- with dipylidia;
- for other diseases caused by helminths.

The drug can also be used to prevent worm infestations. This prophylaxis is given to puppies and adult dogs in the following cases:
- quarterly (for puppies after 3 weeks of age);
- before mating;
- before vaccination.
If your pet has little contact with other animals and spends little time outdoors, preventative treatment can be performed every six months. In any case, it's important to have your pet tested for worms periodically.
Instructions for use
To combat and prevent helminth infestations, Dehinel is given to dogs as directed during the morning feeding. This can be done in several ways:
- Crush the tablet into a powder and then mix it with a small amount of food. Ground meat or another favorite treat works well.
- Force the tablet onto the back of your tongue. A special device can make this task easier.
- Dissolve the crushed tablet in boiled, cold water. Inject the solution into the animal's mouth using a needleless syringe. This method is best for puppies and small dogs.

Before using the medicine, the animal should not be starved or undergo any preparatory actions (taking laxatives, giving enemas).
It's important to adhere to the recommended dosage. When calculating the dosage, keep in mind that one tablet is sufficient for a 10 kg (22 lb) animal. Below are the average dosages (weight and number of tablets):
- 0.5-5 kg – 0.5 pcs.;
- 6-10 kg – 1 pc.;
- 11-15 kg – 1.5 pcs.;
- 16-20 kg – 2 pcs.;
- 21-30 kg – 3 pcs.;
- 31-40 kg – 4 pcs.;
- 41-50 kg – 5 pcs.
When using Dehinel for large breeds (with a higher concentration of active ingredients), the dosage is calculated as follows: one tablet per 35 kg. In any case, consult a veterinarian before use. This tablet formulation is not suitable for puppies and small dogs, as it is very difficult to calculate the exact dosage. There is a high risk of overdose. The drug is suitable for dogs weighing at least 15-20 kg.
The medication is taken once, but for severe infestations, the dose is repeated after two weeks. After treatment, it is essential to undergo tests to ensure that the medication has killed all parasites.
Contraindications and side effects
It's important to deworm dogs on a timely basis, but in some cases, Dehinel should not be used for dogs. Contraindications include:
- kidney dysfunction;
- liver disease;
- intolerance to active or additional components;
- weight less than 500 grams;
- age less than 21 days.
Furthermore, the medication should not be given to pregnant female dogs during the first half of pregnancy. It is also not recommended to use the anthelmintic immediately after the birth of the litter. The medication should be discontinued if the animal is weakened, has had an infectious disease, or has undergone surgery.

The drug should never be combined with Piperazine or Levomisole. Dehinel is also incompatible with organophosphorus compounds.
The anthelmintic is classified as a moderately hazardous substance. Overdose can cause the following side effects:
- gastrointestinal tract disorders, which may manifest as upset stomach, vomiting, nausea, and refusal to eat;
- severe thirst;
- deterioration of health (weakness, unwillingness to play, apathy, lethargy).
If allergic reactions (which may manifest as itching, redness, and other symptoms) or an overdose occur, the animal is given sorbents to speed up the elimination of the medication from the body. Symptomatic treatments are also prescribed, including antihistamines, antidiarrheal medications, and so on.

Owner reviews
Alexey, owner of a German Shepherd:
"When we moved into a private house, our German Shepherd, Rex, began living outside to guard the territory. This made worm prevention a pressing issue. On the vet's recommendation, I bought Dehinel Plus. He really liked the tablets because of the meaty smell. We've been using them for over a year now and have no complaints. We've had him tested several times, and no worms have been found."
Victor, the beagle's owner:
"We deworm our little one regularly. I usually buy proven medications like Caniquantel or Dronatal. One day, they were out of stock at the pharmacy, so I was persuaded to buy Dehinel. I gave it to him with chicken breast. A couple of hours later, he started drinking a lot, became lethargic, and ate poorly. It took two days for him to recover. After testing, it turned out the medication had caused severe liver damage. I don't recommend it."
Veterinarian Reviews
Sergey, a veterinarian with 15 years of experience:
"Dehinel is an antiparasitic medication from a reputable manufacturer. It has a broad spectrum of activity, but it is ineffective against Giardia, as some dog owners mistakenly believe. It's important to follow the dosage, as an overdose can cause serious health problems."
Tatyana, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:
"Dehinel is an effective deworming medication, but like other antiparasitic medications, it is highly toxic. Incorrect use or incorrect dosage can cause serious health problems, including liver damage. Therefore, I advise all dog owners to consult a veterinarian. They can help calculate the correct dosage and identify any contraindications."
