Story
Today, the World Dog Show is one of the most prestigious and largest dog shows held internationally. Its history is marked by ups and downs, challenges and their overcoming. The event is supported by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).
Attempts to hold dog shows had been made before World War II and in the 1950s, but they lacked consistency and regularity. Organizational difficulties arose due to quarantine and transport restrictions on animals. In the early 1970s, the situation changed, and the idea of an international show became more realistic. However, in practice, things proved considerably more complicated.
Dog competitions began in 1971, although the WDS was officially held for the first time only in 1974. Paris became the venue. The show gradually gained popularity, attracting more and more animals from different countries each year. In 2015, Russia hosted the event, hosting a record number of participants – 27,000.
In 2018, three of the 10 prize places were taken by Russian pets.
