Diamond Eyes - drops for cats

Diamond Eyes is a veterinary ophthalmological product with antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and bactericidal properties. It is manufactured by the Moscow-based Agrovetzashita Research and Development Center (AVZ). Diamond Eyes drops are often prescribed specifically for cats.

Composition and action

Diamond Eyes eye drops are an aqueous solution of three active ingredients: chlorhexidine bigluconate, taurine and succinic acid.

Diamond Eyes Drops

Chlorhexidine bigluconate (Chlorhexidini bigluconas) is a powerful disinfectant and antiseptic agent, active against most bacteria, as well as some types of viruses and fungi.

Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. It has regenerative properties and improves metabolic processes in retinal tissue.

Succinic acid is an organic compound, a dibasic carboxylic acid. It improves tissue oxygenation and prevents degenerative processes in the lens and retina.

Indications

For cats, Diamond Eyes drops are used:

  • as a care product;
  • with increased lacrimation;
  • in case of hyperemia (overflow of blood) of the retinal vessels;
  • for acute and chronic conjunctivitis;
  • after injury (to relieve inflammation and prevent the development of infection);
  • as a means of preventing cataracts (clouding of the lens), retinal degeneration (structural changes caused by metabolic disorders), keratopathy (corneal dystrophy).

According to the standard system, the drug belongs to hazard class 4 (low-hazard substances). It can be used in combination with other ophthalmic agents, provided at least 5 minutes elapse between their uses.

The only contraindication for the use of Diamond Eyes is individual hypersensitivity to its components. In some animals, prolonged use of chlorhexidine bigluconate or taurine may cause an allergic reaction, including itching and/or conjunctival redness.

Directions for use

The instructions for the ophthalmic product indicate dosages and instructions for use for different types of use:

  • For eye care. Use a sponge or swab soaked in the solution to remove accumulated exudate and crusts from the inner corners of your cat's eyes. Use a separate swab or sponge for each eye. Then, apply one drop of the medication to each eye.
  • For increased lacrimation and eye redness. The standard dosage for cats is 1 drop of the medication 1 to 3 times daily. Treatment duration depends on the results and may range from 5 to 10 days. If necessary, the course can be repeated after a week's break.
  • For acute and chronic conjunctivitis. The dosage for cats is 1 drop in each eye. Depending on the severity of the condition, Diamond Eyes eye drops can be used 1, 2, or 3 times daily. The duration of treatment is determined by your veterinarian and can range from 2-3 weeks to 1.5 months.
  • For injuries. Diamond Eyes ophthalmic solution is used 3 times daily, 1-2 drops. The medication should be administered only to the affected eye.
  • For the prevention of degenerative processes. As a preventative measure, eye drops are usually used in standard courses, which involve alternating 20 days of treatment with 10 days of rest.

Brilliant Eyes eye drops are available in plastic dropper bottles or glass vials in 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 ml capacities. Each bottle, along with instructions, is packaged in a separate box.

The drug is stored at room temperature in a dark place; the shelf life is 2 years.

Price

Diamond Eyes drops can be purchased without a prescription at a veterinary pharmacy; a 10 ml bottle costs 220-250 rubles.

Putting drops in a cat's eyes is not easy, as are many other manipulations.

Reviews

Tatyana Igorevna Boyko, veterinarian

"I recommend eye drops from the Russian company Agrovetzashchita mostly as a treatment for cats. "Diamond Eyes" work well, don't cause discomfort, and quickly soften dried crusts, which are then easily removed with a cotton swab. None of my cats have experienced any side effects such as allergies, even with long-term use. I also prescribe this medication for conjunctivitis, but for acute inflammatory eye diseases, I use it in combination with other medications, such as antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications."

Olga Nikitina, Moscow

"I've had a Scottish Fold cat for many years. Some time ago, his eyes started to become infected, possibly due to his advanced age. Pus and crusts appeared first in one eye, then in the other. Our vet recommended Diamond Eyes eye drops. I started wiping his eyes daily with a swab soaked in the drops, then placing one drop in each eye. The results were noticeable very quickly, within just a few days. The only downside is that Diamond Eyes drops are quite expensive for me; the smallest bottle, which holds 10 ml, costs over 200 rubles."

Sofia Leonidova, Petrozavodsk

"We have two dogs and two cats in our house. The younger cat came to us from the street and had eye problems from the very beginning: they were constantly watering and often became sore. The vet suggested we buy "Diamond Eyes" cat drops. We had to wipe his eyes daily and then use them several times a day. The treatment turned out to be surprisingly effective: despite the kitten's obviously advanced condition, having been born and raised in a back alley, within a week our little pet's tears had stopped flowing and his eyes were clear. Now Diamond Eyes drops will always be in our veterinary medicine cabinet, especially since they can be used on dogs too."
