General description

The cat collar is manufactured by the veterinary company Beaphar, whose main production facilities are located in the Netherlands. The company has been in business since 1942 and has a strong reputation among pet product manufacturers. During production, products undergo mandatory quality control in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and Directive EEC91/412. Therefore, Beaphar's finished products comply with all standards applicable to the production of veterinary drugs, food products, and food additives for animals in the EU.

Beaphar offers a three-stage protection system to combat ectoparasites:

  1. Shampoos or sprays: to destroy pests in case of severe infestation.
  2. Collar or drops: to kill pests in case of minor infestation and as a preventative measure to prevent re-infestation.
  3. Sprays: for processing furniture and floor coverings.

This collar is an insecticidal product that provides reliable protection against ectoparasites for up to 6 months with continuous use. It can be used on all breeds. It is made of PVC tape impregnated with an antiparasitic substance. The tape is 35 cm long and easily adjusted to the individual size of your pet. It is secured with a plastic clip.

Beaphar collars are equipped with the Safety System. This system features special notches on the strap that ensure instant release. If the cat gets caught on something, the collar will stretch or tear, preventing injury and strangulation.

The insecticide is available in sealed plastic bags placed in a cardboard box. The shelf life, when unopened, is up to 5 years.

Compound

Beaphar flea and tick collars for cats vary depending on the antiparasitic active ingredient used. The company offers three main types of insecticidal components:

  • tetrachlorvinphos (SOS Flea & Tick Collar);
  • diazinon (Flea & Tick collar for Cat);
  • Margosa extract (VETO Shield Bio Band).

SOS Flea & Tick collars with tetrachlorvinphos can be used on adult cats and kittens from two months of age (age ratings are indicated on the packaging). The active ingredient is a white powder that spreads over the entire skin and hair coat over time. It does not penetrate the bloodstream. Tetrachlorvinphos coats both sides of the collar, enhancing the effectiveness of the antiparasitic product. With continued use, it provides protection against fleas for up to 8 months and against ticks for up to 4 months.

When first using SOS Flea & Tick, powder may ooze from the tape and scatter on surfaces. This should subside within 2-3 days.

Flea & Tick collars for cats with diazinon are intended for use on cats aged six months and older. Diazinon is an insecticide with contact and intestinal action. It inhibits the physicochemical reactions involving acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme found in synapses and necessary for the hydrolysis of neurotransmitters in parasites. This results in paralysis, which leads to death. Diazinon-containing strips are effective against fleas and ticks for six months.

VETO Shield Bio Band is a bio-collar with natural ingredients. Its main active ingredient, neem tree extract, has natural repellent properties. The tree grows in the tropical regions of India and Pakistan and has been used since ancient times as a key ingredient in many medications (including for dermatological conditions). Additional ingredients include natural oils of lavender, pennyroyal, eucalyptus, cedar, rue, and citronella. The collar protects against various parasites (ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, etc.) for four months. It is approved for use on kittens from two months of age.

Features of application

When using the Beaphar tick collar for cats, observe the personal hygiene rules required for handling veterinary medications. Avoid smoking, eating, or drinking while treating your pet. People with allergies or cuts or abrasions on their hands are advised to wear rubber gloves. After handling the insecticide, wash your hands thoroughly with soap.

Before use, do not wash your pet for 2-3 days. After opening the package, unfold the tape and adjust it to your pet's size (there should be a 1-1.5 cm gap between the neck and the product). Secure the tape with a plastic clip, and trim off any excess.

The collar is worn continuously. It's water-resistant, so your pet can be bathed. However, its effectiveness is slightly reduced if you bathe your pet before the coat is dry. This should be taken into account when bathing cats accustomed to free-roaming.

Note. The product containing tetrachlorvinphos must be stretched before use to allow the active ingredient to take effect.

When initially using Beaphar, the antiparasitic product may infect your cat with a small number of parasites. After 2-3 days, the active ingredient will spread through the skin and coat, and the parasites will fall off on their own. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the product a few days before taking your cat for a walk or having contact with other animals.

Range and price

Beaphar offers over 10 types of cat collars. Their main differences include the type of active ingredient and the age group of the pet. Products are available in a wide range of colors (white, black, red, yellow, purple, etc.), so they can be matched to the color of your pet's coat or used as a stylish, vibrant accessory.

In this case, remove the collar and wash the animal with a neutral shampoo, rinsing it thoroughly under running water.

The insecticide is not intended for:

  • kittens up to 2 months;
  • females during pregnancy and lactation;
  • pets sick with infectious diseases or in the process of recovery.

Owner reviews

Ekaterina Lysenko:

"We live in a private house, and our cat is constantly outside—he wanders around on his own. On the neighbors' recommendation, we bought him a Beaphar Flea & Tick flea collar. We chose white—it looks stunning on a black cat (you could choose another color—there's quite a variety of colors). It's easy to put on, and the strap doesn't bother him. He's been accustomed to this type of protection since he was a puppy, so he didn't experience any discomfort. It does its job well—the insects don't bother him."

Angela Fedorova:

"We've been using the Beaphar collar all summer while we've been living in our country house. Our cat loves to roam the grounds, so she absolutely needs protection. Beaphar is effective in keeping parasites at bay: we haven't seen any ticks or fleas in three months. Plus, it's pretty. Excellent value for money."

Nadya Morgunova:

"We've known Beaphar for a long time—we actively use not only their antiparasitic products but also other ones. We're very pleased with the quality. The collar works great—no parasites, even though my cat is constantly outdoors. The smell is a bit off-putting at first, but it quickly dissipates."
