Anthelmintic drugs for cats
Anthelmintic medications for cats vary in dosage form and active ingredients, which may be effective against specific types of worms or multiple groups. When the type of parasite infecting the animal is unknown, a combination of medications is recommended. The best option is to have a veterinarian prescribe the medication. If consulting a specialist is not possible, it is important to strictly adhere to the dosage instructions to avoid complications and death of your pet.

Thanks to a variety of dosage forms, every owner can choose the most convenient option based on their pet's needs. For animals unable to swallow tablets, a suspension can be discreetly added to food. For kittens, drops are the best option, as they are considered safer if applied in a way that prevents the pet from licking them off. We offer a list of the best deworming medications for cats from domestic and international manufacturers.
Milbemax
One of the best and most popular anthelmintic tablets with a combination of action, it effectively eliminates not only adult parasites but also laid eggs. The dosage is determined based on the animal's body weight and is typically limited to a single application. Milbemax is effective against cetodes, nematodes, and mixed infestations. The manufacturer offers two versions: for adult animals and kittens.

Drontal
Drontal is a domestically produced tablet. Each tablet is designed for a 4 kg (9.8 lb) animal. It is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic, making it effective against many types of worms, regardless of their stage of development. The tablets' effectiveness is due to the combination of praziquantel and pyrantel embonate. They should be administered one hour before morning feeding, on an empty stomach. This anthelmintic is not suitable for kittens under three weeks of age or weighing less than 500 g (1.2 lb).

Prazicide
This anthelmintic is available as an oral suspension packaged in a syringe dispenser. This packaging allows for precise measurement of the required dose, which should be administered in the morning (on the base of the tongue or mixed with water or food). Praziquantel is effective against larvae and mature roundworms and tapeworms. Its formula is similar to Drontal. Although considered safe and non-toxic, it is not suitable for use in sick or weakened animals. Praziquantel can be used in pregnant cats no later than three weeks before giving birth.

Polyvercan
A broad-spectrum medication available in an alternative form—sugar cubes. Each cube contains 200 mg of niclosamide and 40 mg of oxibendazole, effective in eliminating adult cestodes and nematodes, larvae, and eggs without causing toxicity to the pet. The cubes can be dissolved in water or given to cats directly. Poliverkan can be used in kittens aged one month and older.

Profender
An effective anthelmintic for cats in the form of drops intended for application to the withers or neck. In any case, the application site should be difficult for the pet to reach, as getting the drops in the mouth can at least trigger a gag reflex. The formula is based on praziquantel and emodepside. It is suitable for animals 8 months and older, with the exception of weakened and emaciated animals, as well as those suffering from viral or infectious diseases.

Prazitel
Another non-toxic, broad-spectrum medication effective against nematodes, cestodes, and trematodes at all stages of development. Available in suspension (in a dosing syringe) or tablet form, it contains praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate. Prazitel can be used in kittens 20 days and older. Use in pregnant or nursing cats, as well as in combination with piperazine-based anthelmintics, is not recommended.

Dirofen
A complex anthelmintic from the Russian company Api-San, available in tablet or suspension form. Its effectiveness against tapeworms and roundworms is due to the combination of three active ingredients: praziquantel, fenbenlazole, and pyrantel. The formula also includes pumpkin seed oil, which has anthelmintic properties while being gentle on animals.
Important! Proof of authenticity of Dirofen tablets is the manufacturer's imprint "AS" on one side and perpendicular score lines on the other. These lines also make it easy to separate the dose based on your pet's body weight.

Inspector
These broad-spectrum topical drops are suitable for killing worms, fleas, and ear mites. The combined effect is achieved through the presence of fipronil and moxidetine. The prolonged effect protects your pet from new infestations. Some animals may experience skin reactions at the application site.

Gelmintal
These are low-toxic, gentle anthelmintic drops for cats over 2 months of age. The formula contains two active ingredients: praziquantel and moxidectin. They are effective in killing helminths and external parasites. The effect is noticeable within 3-4 days, and elimination from the body takes about a month.

Febtal
A Russian-made anthelmintic medication available in tablet form or as a suspension (for kittens). The tablets have a pleasant taste, so administration is usually hassle-free: they can be given plain or mixed with food, preferably crushed before use. Febtal is typically administered before morning feeding for three days. The medication is non-toxic to animals and causes virtually no side effects.

Caniquantel
A powerful medication for the elimination of flatworms and roundworms, Caniquantel must be used strictly according to the instructions. Each tablet, designed for a 10 kg (22 lb) animal body weight, contains 500 mg of fenbendazole and 50 mg of praziquanten. This anthelmintic can be used in dogs and cats. Caniquantel is strictly not suitable for pregnant animals or animals under 3 months of age.
Caution! Counterfeit versions of the most popular anthelmintics (especially Prazitel, Drontal, and Prazicide) have become common lately. Therefore, they should be purchased only from reputable veterinary pharmacies, ensuring they are licensed. Using counterfeit anthelmintics for cats will not only fail to produce the desired effect but can also lead to serious complications, including death.

Owner reviews
Julia:
"Since our cat absolutely refuses to take any tablets or suspensions, Poliverkan sugar cubes have become the best option for me. I've been using them since they came out and am completely satisfied with the results. Our sweet tooth simply devours them like candy. The only drawback I find is the lack of stickers for the veterinary passport, which are often included with antiparasitic medications."
Artem, owner of Marquise:
"We couldn't find the right medication for our cat for a long time; many cited vomiting, allergies, or other side effects. Dirofen was a real lifesaver for our cat—a safe suspension that won't harm her even if overdosed. Thanks to the convenient syringe, we squeeze the medication directly into her mouth, which is much more convenient than tablets. The only drawback is the price."
Olga, the owner of two cats:
"At the veterinary clinic, my cat was diagnosed with toxocariasis and was recommended Caniquantel tablets as a universal treatment. We also had to deworm the second cat as a preventative measure. Neither cat had any side effects or allergic reactions. One tablet is enough for both cats (one needs half a tablet, the other a quarter), so it's also a cost-effective solution. I've chosen the most convenient method of administration for myself: I dilute it with a small amount of water and administer it into the cat's mouth using a simple syringe without a needle."
