ANDE LAKKY STAR NORMANDIA successfully masters NoseWork

NoseWork is a discipline taught to dogs to teach them to detect specific scents and locate their sources. This term was introduced into canine science by experts such as Ron Gaunt, Amy Herot, and Jill Marie O'Brien. They also developed a specialized course of training aimed at organizing activities that would be engaging for dogs and their owners and would allow them to pass the "Detective Work" course.

Course content

NoseWork training teaches pets to detect specific odors and their sources. Initially, training always uses the scent of a favorite toy or food. The level of difficulty gradually increases. Over time, the dog is trained to recognize scents such as cloves, dried orange peel, and cinnamon. Any successes in training are rewarded with treats.

Our Labrador retriever, Normandy, has been taking this course for six months now. Together with professional dog trainer Marina Perova, they have already mastered four types of search techniques:

  • smell inside the container;
  • smell in the room;
  • smell in transport;
  • searching for a scent in an open space.

Aili loves these activities because they're active and engaging. NoseWork is great for developing a keen sense of exploration and helping her master the art of searching for objects in various settings.

NoseWork Discipline and Its Benefits

NoseWork is a wonderful and magical world of scents. A world of captivating exploration, a world any dog can master perfectly. Training always brings joy and a great mood, reveals talents, keeps you on your toes, and prevents you from relaxing.

ANDE LUCKY STAR NORMANDI is a very active, cheerful, and energetic dog. The NoseWork course helps us channel her energy productively, and she's developing by leaps and bounds, literally before our eyes.

Moreover, this type of training helps strengthen the bond between owner and pet. Aili and I began to understand each other even better, trusting her reactions and my observations of her.

It's worth noting that an hour-long training session provides a more intense workout for dogs than two or three hours of walks. They become calmer and more balanced, and are better able to learn commands in other disciplines.

We're looking forward to continuing our NoseWork journey with our wonderful instructor, and we're confident that Aili will excel, as she has the passion and drive to achieve impressive results! Wish us luck!
